When ever I get it done, I hope to have Ed Wright tune it. I only live about two hours from his shop.

500 sounds realistic. Maybe a bit more. Best of luck with it! Please post results, I am curious and also with detailed specs.

.027 head gasket.

The engine has been zero decked.

The cam duration is 26X/26X with around a .680 lift.
Make sure you check your piston to valve clearance very carefully.

We have. The person that I had build my motor has years and years of experience with high performance engines.

I did a compression check on your combo with the data provided.

12.52 to 1

I would be very careful running that tight of quench, leaves NO room for error.

I would NOT run that car much until you get on the dyno, you WILL hurt pistons on pumpgas, even with a break in tune. I would run Shell 93 in it.

Ed has the tune that was put in my car...it will be close to what you need.

My plan is once I get the car finished I will trailer over to Tulsa and hand it over to Ed. Of course I have a ways to go and need more money to get there. Someday.

Interesting, another 396 LT1. I'm also in the process of doing this. I certainly hope the 1300 CFM throttle body will not be necessary as I've already purchase the "standard 58mm" 900 CFM one. Don't think it will, as I'm using the smaller LT4 heads and intake. This will not be an "all out" effort. Just want a strong streetable engine for my heavy as Vert.
But just in case I run into some hopped up Mustangs, I'll be compensating with a little forced induction. Hope to finish by mid April. Then it's done I'll post the results and some 1/4 mile times.
To say the least I'm a little nervous. This is the largest(ci.) and most expensive engine I've ever done.

So with all of these experts what kind of horsepower should I expect. What do I get if I make 500hp at the flywheel?
Running the Ai stuff, huh?

Most of these guys aren't familiar with Ai's stuff... like their 3400+ lbs car going 9.80s @ 138 on an LT1 headed, LT1 intake manifold, hydraulic roller 383 and putting down nearly 520rwhp on the dyno.

Don't take it to heart. I think the motor will make somewhere around 600 horsepower if Phil set it up

Not 500 crank horsepower? C'mon, guys.... that's a good heads/cam setup on an LT1.

SO I should be making 700 fwhp?

I probably make closer to 600fwhp.

I have seen VERY few (if any) head cam stock bottom end LTx motors make 500 fwhp.....And even if they did, people give these examples and other people that read it think they should be able to do it.

Since when do you pop a set of heads and cam on a GEN1/2 small block and make 500fwhp, it aint like putting Pop Tarts in the toaster.

LS1...yeh, LT1 uhhhh no.

This guy my make 550, depends on alot of factors.

They do some nice work, have you seen what they've done with the Dart Little Chief heads? They may not be street motors but they're at the doorstep of 3hp per cube.

I know someone who has a set of those, they have been sitting in the corner for about 4 years now with the intake. And they won't sell them

They are some bad MFers tho.......the car was supposed to go 8.60's on motor 388 inches NA.

a whole lot. I think they build them for the customer so each set would be different.
