Horsepower

Using the rough calculations calculator I show an estimated 598 hp. What exactly does this take into consideration? If I had a set of kooks headers would I gain extra hp? How about a ported and polished intake opened for a 58mm monoblade with high flowing heads? If all this adds a little extra to the horsepower, then how does one actually figure the injector size? Would I be better off with a lower duty cycle or does one have to stay around the 80% mark? What benefits do I get if I stay around the 80% duty cycle? Sorry for all the questions. I am so ready for this project to be finished so I can get out and enjoy it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The "rough" HP calculator is just that.... very "rough". It would assume that you have an adequate intake and exhaust system, including a set of headers and throttle body that will support ~600HP. Are you assuming, for example, you would make 598 HP with a stock TB and stock manifold?

I wouldn't size any engine components, like the injectors, based on that calculator. If you provide the flow data for the heads, and the cam specs, someone could probably ballpark your HP better than that calculator.

PS - What is a 58mm monoblade?

For anyone who doesn't know what the "rough" calculator is, its based solely on displacement, "mean" compression ratio and RPM at which peak HP occurs:

58mm single-blade throttle body. It's in his sig.

The estimate is useless and you will not make 600hp with that combo. If you want hp numbers you need to either put it on a dyno or at least get some trap speeds at the track.

Computed Engine HP is 683

add a sig with mods.....someone can figure it out or get close. The max head flow multiplied by 2.1 is about the max...and you will probly be under that

No where does it say it is 58 mm, where are you coming up with that ?

It's in the link name. It's a monoblade throttle body that is 58mm "tall" and about twice as wide.

Just that I've never seen anyone call a "monoblade" a "58mm monoblade"..... seems .... well.... odd.

I think if "monoblade" needs more of a description "1300 CFM monoblade" sounds less odd than 58mm monoblade, JMHO.

Rich, First of all the engine is sitting on a stand and I still need a few parts. That is why I am trying to figure out the horsepower so I know what fuel injectors to go with. Second, why exactly do you think that this engine will not make 600 hp. You have no idea what my cam specs are or what compression that I am running.

Can someone post a web page or a formula so I can get closer to the horsepower that my engine may put out.

Well, since you didn't bother to post those "liitle" details, I just took a WAG. Get injectors that flow ~50# and you will be fine. I will buy you a beer if it makes 600hp.
