Re: Assorted Newb questions

if ur putting 350 heads on a 305,u better mill them b/c ur gonna lose compression which=bad.

L98 vette heads arent that much better than cast iron L98 heads, they are aluminum (which u know now) that weight less and dissapate heat faster than cast iron. but if your gonna spend 400 on a set of heads,u may as well wait longer and buy a set of cast iron Vortec heads in the $550 range and they will give u much better performance than those alum. L98's. but if u buy Vortec heads,u have to buy a Vortec specific intake b/c the intake-to-head bolt pattern is different.

since your talking about a majority street car,i would do the Vortec's...you'll be happier in the long run. those heads,a mild cam, good intake and carb...and ur car wound go low 13's w/ a 350,not sure about a 305.

hope that helps

Re: Assorted Newb questions

Snap.. never even thought of the fact that I will be putting 350 heads on a 305; I forgot I would have to mill them Crap! So how much does milling tend to go for? I don't wanna go with Vortec; too expensive, and too much work and money to get the diff. intake.
ALL the help I have been gettting lately has helped me GREATLY, Ricekiller.. thanx for yours!

Not really an issue with the aluminum L98's as they only have a 58cc combustion chamber. I think the cast L98 (the ones found on stock F-bodies) were 64cc.

So will either head fit, or will I have them milled down?

The 'vette L98s will actually raise compression just a pinch. They will work fine with the 305 will no work done to them at all.

I originally bought mine before I found the 400 block. The ideas that I have given you are all things that I was going to do to my 305.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

And the Vette L98's are ONLY Aluminum, right?

Well, I might be buying my Performer RPM.. TOMOROW with luck I can't wait! Then, I can do my valve seals, intake manifold, AND carburetor!
Do you think that these mods will make my exhaust note any different or meaner, or will it not effect it?

Yes, the vette L98s are all aluminum, and non of the F-body L98's are aluminum.

You prolly won't hear any difference in the stock exhaust.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

What if my exhuaust isn't stock.. will I hear a difference?
BTW.. I think that now if I find a Performer for cheaper, by a large margin that is, than a Perf. RPM, then I will buy that instead.. I am almost to the point of being desperate for buying parts and putting the car on the road
