Assorted Newb questions

I am going to be buying the Hedman Headers (from Jegs p/n 500-68460) headers, I have a Performer 600, I am getting some kind of high-flow cat (can someone please recommend a cheap one?) a Flow 80-series, and some kind of edelbrock intake manifold.
What kind of cat should I get? Is Catco any good?
What kind of intake man. should I get? The edelbrock Performer EPS manifold? Or the Performer manifold? I am looking for torque.. off idle torque.

I finally have some money, and I am soooo excited!
Thanx a BUNCH to all the repliers,
Matt

Re: Assorted Newb questions

Well, I am on a VERY tight budget right now.. the goal is to get the car on the ROAD, and not worry about 500 dollar exhaust systems right now. I just want the bare-essentials. I have NO exhaust on the car, as it rusted apart. So instead of buying cheap Munroe crap, I am getting hi-perf. Flows, and hi-perf. cats and stuff. But otherwise, I would LOVE to get a GMMP or something.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

get a hooker or magnaflow catback. They are close in price to the flowmaster and are a little better in my opinion.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

why was the catco a comlete pos?
I am not buying an exhuast *system*, just an individual muffler. I am gonna have an exhaust shop do the rest for under 200. (Well, I am putting on the headers/cat, but i mean the rest of the exhaust will be built for under $200). I mean Catalytic Convertor, not a cat-back, mullettour

Re: Assorted Newb questions

if u want a great intake for the street,u cant beat the Performer RPM. well, unless u go for the Air Gap,which will give u a little more power (not even sure if you'll feel it),but less hood clearance.

Hedman Headers are great headers for the money BTW.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

Will I clear the hood with an Performer RPM, and Performer 600? What is the RPM range on the Performer RPM? Would the power you get from an Intaked manifold be noticeable?

Will the power I get from the Hedman headers be noticeable?

Re: Assorted Newb questions

And by the way.. can you show me where to get the Perfomer RPM manifold? Somewhere cheap, as my budget is EXTREMELY limited.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

www.summittracing.com . Great place to start looking, and nice prices too. You could also try ebay. www.ebay.com

Note: I doubt you needed ebay's address, unless you have been living in a cave the past 10 years.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

Here's the Edelbrock Performer on Jeg's Site:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...98&prmenbr=361

If you're running the stock heads/cam I wouldn't bother with the RPM - just stick with the reg. Performer.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

Well, the thing is.. further down the line, when I have money to use for performance upgrades, I am going to get my heads ported, larger valves, and I am going to get a nice cam for it. But that will not be right away.. that will be after a while..
Does anyone know that average h/p gained by an intake manifold?

if u are planning for better future mods, than i would go ahead and get the Performer RPM,especially if u want to do a cam swap and port the heads like u say u want to do...b/c if u buy the regular performer now and do those mods, ull have to buy another new intake for the motor to run as well as u would like it to.

the RPM range on it is 1500-6500.

changing the intake and installing headers will make the car noticably faster. the headers alone will give u prob. 20 FWHP or so,and the intake wont give u as much, maybe 10 or so...untill u throw in the cam and such

EDIT:

yes, check ebay for some good deals on there. i bought my intake off there for $135 or so shipped to me. the guy said it was bolted on his motor and he decided to do something else and when i got it,it still looked brand new w/ NO oil stains on the bottom or anything.

Re: Assorted Newb questions

I really don't care for the 1500-6500 rpm range. I want torque from off idle, not having to wait until 1500 rpm's. But I won't have as much luck with just the Perfomer down the line? Will the 10-horse from an Intake manifold be noticeable?
And since we are on the topic of Cams, what are average hp gains from cams? Is it noticeable? Are rockers alone really worth like 35 horse as advertised by CompCams (I believe it was..) from Hot Rod magazine?
You think I could find a Perfomer RPM for less than 135$?
THanx for you help rice killer, I REALLY appreciate it
