Question on Crankshaft...?

Hey guys sorry for the dumb question, but I have a question on Crankshafts... I have a 95 z28 manual. I intend on stroking it out to 396, I'm looking for a scat forged crank, my question is this, do I need a 2pc rear main or 1pc rear main? I want to make sure I buy the right one. if someone could take the time and explain the difference I would appreciate it. I'm not really mechanically incline, I do basic maintenance to my car thought... Thanks

Re: Question on Crankshaft...?

LT1, and all Chevy small blocks from 1986 use a 1-piece rear main seal. You could, technically, get a 2-piece seal adapter kit, and use an earlier style crank, but there's nothing to be gained in doing that.

A 1-piece seal is a "ring" and slips over the reduced diameter end of the crank. A 2-piece seal is two 180-deg pieces, and are required because a "ring" cannot slip over the larger end of the weighted 2-piece crankshaft.

Found this at High Performance Pontiac magazine (article about 3rd Gen F-Body SBC's):
