What concerns you more? Cost or weight?
As for power... I clearly recall the 99 Cobra fiasco... and that's another reason I want to see a real 2011 Mustang and its specs before believing about it.
More and more it looks like to me that Ford is heading the right direction with a smaller car that is lighter and will be close possibly in power. I will take the less powerful lighter car any of the week. Im glad they are not planning the next mustang based on the crown vic platform.
Seems that is what Gm has done and it was doomed from the start from the weight perspective. I would call 1/3 of the people who are worried about weight very significant. I also remember fourcams predictions before any GM insider knew for sure and it looks like once again he is going to be close to being correct. Yes, its all speculation at this point but the guy has been terribly accurate in the past.
I feel like GM has dropped the ball on one of the most single important things they could have fixed from the get go. Its not going to change now and those that are happy driving a two ton pony car I say have at it. Its not for me and neither is a gt 500.
Well, it is, at least for GM, if they can't get their cash flow problem righted. But a Camaro that's 200 pounds heavier than it might have been is the least of their problems.

Yes, we all remember that. However, look at the 03/04 Mach 1 and Cobras. If anything, they were both underrated. Ford is not going to make that mistake again.

If you think 53 internet posters agreeing on something is a significant trend (especially when they are operating on a distinct lack of published facts), out of the thousands who participate here, you truly are new.
And I think it's ridiculous for anyone to say GM has 'dropped the ball' on the new Camaro, when it's not even out there yet for anyone to drive. How do you know, if the car is a great design or not? Do you know something the rest of us do not?
Cost is a big factor. You are going to be paying more for this than for the 4th gen (obviously) and it will only be marginally faster. If it was cheaper and significantly faster we would definitely have something to talk about. The only reason we're actually excited is because GM is finally showing its guts with the body design. That's it; just plastic.
Here's what I believe. The new Camaro is coming - soon. It's going to please its buyers far beyond their expectations. It's going to be the safest, quietest, best-handling, best-stopping, most-powerful, and most feature-packed Camaro ever made. And it's going to put a lot of cars much lighter than itself to shame :cool
By the way, I also remember Chevy marketing Camaro as the "Corvette with 4 seats", which definitely doesn't make me think "family car".

Im with you. Its well past the point of debates to add B pillars to save weight at the cost of roll down 1/4 windows I was hoping for but thats ok. Well past T Tops that were not getting. The moon roof is optional and I cant imagine the Torque gauge weighs much more than the 20 lbs I need to loose. Camaro looks pretty small like I was hoping. We could have a Monza sized Alpha Camaro but that would delay launch, and even if it were done instead of Zeta, what would you call the camaro sized car if it came out later? Even if the car has navigation, I cant imagine that even adds weight but correct me if Im wrong. Isnt the cars computer containing everything and any software is just added to it? The navigation dispayed on the screen or do I have that wrong? Im not saying shut up, but I havent seen too much in the way of viable suggestions more than "Im not buying that."

Jason,
The tribal wisdoms of the Dakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says that 'When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount'.
There are apparently few Native Americans on this site...

Motto for some here is:
"There is no horse that is too dead to beat."

I only suggest that those that have an interest in the new Camaro will look hard at the car when it is available. Drive it, digest and determine the specs once they are fleshed out. Buy or don't buy.
I assume all here either are Camaro fans or have some actual interest in the car.
This is what constitutes community.
I suppose I have some advantage in having seen the production intent car. I freely admit to having a soft spot in my heart for the Camaro and have acted on it through purchase since the first generation. I don't suggest this makes me special...just to point out I'm interested in a material rather than an abstract manner.
I believe the new Camaro is worth a strong look by potential buyers.
I think it is essential for anyone that considers themselves a Camaro or F-Body fan to go and touch, consider, and actually DRIVE some 5th gens with different powerplants and suspension packages before extolling or damning the project.
That being done, we get away from subjective presumptions and into, with any luck, objective conclusions.
