A 12.9 @111 is very nice for the baseline GM run of the 2010 Camaro SS. I think there is a bit more in the car and at great tracks on great days by great driver’s maybe even 2-3 tenths and a mph or two.

On the street the LS3 will save the egos of many drivers trying to bite off more than they can chew... GT500. The Camaro SS will need mods to compete with Fords more powerful and more expensive pony.

Personally I'd be curious to see just what a set of 4.10's do for the SS. I think that would be my first mod. I have a feeling it will be worth every penny.

GT500 owners that don't want to mod their car, but do care about who can beat them in a straight line... I suppose they might be quaking in their boots... all two of them.

Install a supercharger and a forged rotating assembly on the Camaro, and then GT500 owners will have something to fear. Of course, that's well over $10,000 in mods...

Oh, absolutely. I just don't think that GT500 owners will be quaking in their boots about the potential performance a 2010 SS could achieve with ten grand in mods. For ten grand, you can make damn near anything run 11s!

yes but it wont look as good running down the track. im not really concerned with 1/4 performance. i just want a quick car that will dive into a corner and accelerate out of it quickly

You missed my point. If GT500 owners were quaking in their boots at the idea of the number of vehicles that could beat them with ten grand in mods, they'd all be nervous wrecks!

...maybe until you need warranty work on that modified Camaro.... then good luck. The GT500 guy will be laughing at you.

The roof panel is not a structural element, its functionaly no different than the trunk lid or hood, its just a cover.

The underlying structure is pretty substantial (like a roll cage), however even in the abscence of the roof structure like on the convertible, the Mustang still gets a 5 star rating.

New Camaro should be running 11's for a lot less than ten grand. I am thinking gears, tires, and headers should get the job done.

im planning on doing gears, headers, catback, and i would like to do head/cam swap. just to put me over 500 hp. that should take care of the gt500 guys. except for the ones who changed out the pulley. granted they do have an advantage having a blower already installed. all it takes is minor mods for them to reach 600hp to the wheels. im just looking for 500 and losing a few hundred lbs off the car. i should be fine. im not planning on doing that much racing. im not 18 any more. i got more to lose now than i did then.

The GT500 stock runs a 12.8@114 a hand full for a SS but the basic vette @ 430HP will run off from it in the Quarter mile, and the 505 HP Z06 will run off and hide from it. We won't even talk of the ZR1......
If Gm puts the LS7 in the Z28 as a option it would run away from the GT500 also.
I presently have a 505HP Z06,but my love is camero and when the Z28/SS comes out beefed up I'll come back home where I belong....

Another old one back from the dead.....

FYI....MM&FF recently went 11.9 @ 120 mph in a bone stock 2010 GT500. That *might* be just a bit more than a hand full for an SS, but I don't know. What's the best magazine SS time you've seen?

/magazine racing.

best ss time i have seen was 12.7. i dont know the mph. but i think that was the best time i saw on a stock ss. thats still not bad compared to the 11.9 gt500 that is supercharged and lighter. most gt500 owners arent running that good of times though. and neither are most ss owners. if it came down to it, drivers error will play a huge part in who would win. its not impossible for a ss to beat a gt500.
