2010 GT500 aiming at Camaro?
You must own a SS, i definitely understand why you are so mad at the new GT500. In every comparison you are being destroyed by the GT500. on the paper or the reality way better car then Camaro SS. Oh maybe you are so disappointed that GM is back on the production of the Z28 which will hopefully destroy the GT500, and you spent all your money on the SS thinking Z28 will not be in production ever. Relax, SS is underpowered compared to the GT500.
Anyone see the latest issue of Motortrend where the Hennessey HPE650 destroyed the 750hp Shelby GT500 Super Snake?
It posted better grip, WAY better track times, and a slightly faster quarter mile with a higher trap speed. But here's what really caught my attention:
In the article, on a side column, they mention their test of a 562hp HPE550 which I must have missed. They stated that car ran 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, and the quarter in 11.9 seconds at 121.6mph. And those numbers are completely believable given the very low 12's we have seen from the CTS-V. Furthermore, the great track times of the HPE650 in this test coupled with those of the CTS-V means GM has very little R&D left to do to make the Camaro Z28 down right mean on the race track.
And one more thing that caught my attention:
GT500 Super Snake
635hp@6110rpm
581lb-ft@4750rpm
Camaro HPE650
612hp@6000rpm
593lb-ft@3960rpm
This was all on 91 octane pump gas. Obviously those larger cubes of the LS3 are making for a MUCH better torque curve with greater peak torque at almost a thousand lower rpm. The Camaro HPE650 was making almost 500lb-ft at 2000rpm while the GT500 Super Snake was making just over 400lb-ft at 2000rpm. That is a BIG difference.
An LSA Camaro Z28 should be good for very low 12's in the hands of magazine drivers and more impressively could fix some of the handling woe's that the current Camaro SS suffers from. Could be a great all around package. The biggest question at this point is time and cost. I am reading the Z28 wouln't be here until late 2011'. That's too long in my opinion.

Displacement FTW!
The F5 had the advantage in lateral grip with its 275/35R20 - 305/35R20 PS2's as well as a better sorted out rear suspension.
In comparison, the Super Snake was shod with 255/30R20 - 285/30R20 PZeros and an NVH compromised rear suspension. Something Ford needs to find a way to address, wheelhop is really noticable in both the GT and GT500, well at least for the 05-09 models and I'd guess for the '10 cars as well.
You would think that SAI would address the problem in some fashion but it appears the Super Snake rides on stock rear suspension components using the FR3 suspension which alters the instant center ( I beleive thats it) and pinion angle for the worse.

I don't think he's joking, but I do think he's forgetting that the GT500 only needs a pulley swap and a tune and it's MUCH faster than stock.
GT500 owners that don't want to mod their car, but do care about who can beat them in a straight line... I suppose they might be quaking in their boots... all two of them.
