Running 17x11 w/36mm offset...Worth the trouble?
Running 17x11 w/36mm offset...Worth the trouble?
I picked up a pair of new 17x11 chrome ZR1 replica wheels in 36mm offset. I got a great deal so could probebly resell at a profit if need be.
I was planning on running these on my T/A, but have just been looking into what it takes to run 315s, and im curious if the 36mm offset would make these any harder to run?
I really dont want to "roll" my fender lip like ive heard I may need. Does this actually involve bending the inner lip of the fender? ie the painted part of the quarter pannel?
So i guess my question is should i mess with getting these tires to work or just sell them for some with 50mm offset?
If both require the same amount of work to run i might as well just keep these, as i dont think they look bad sticking out a bit.

+50 will be the BEST fit with the 315's. If you're planning to run these on all 4 corners, you will still need to roll the fenders.

They will stick out past the fender well and they might hit on larger bumps even with fenders rolled.

I found that even with the 50mm offset ZR1's, on a really hard shift (back when the car was an M6), the inner edges of the fender lips would scrape the side of the tires. I picked up "The Jimmy" and rolled the painted edges up = no more scrapes.

With the 36.5mm offset, the tires are going to be more than 1/2" further toward the outside of the fender, putting them that much closer to the fender lip. Can't see how it would make it anything but harder to clear the lip.
One thing I've found with these cars it that there is a huge variation in how a given wheel/tire combo actually fits on the car, and how much it rubs. Some people bolt on huge wheel/tire combos and claim to have no problems at all. I found that hammering, cutting the corner off the jounce bumper bracket, a little recentering with an adjustable panhard rod and rolling the fender lip up all help me eliminate problems. Yet a buddy of mine with a 30th SS convertible ran the same wheels and tires with none of these issues, other than the jounce bumper bracket.
