Spanked a WRX
I dunno about Legacys but 2004 WRX engines are the worst to work on. On my friend's W an injector swap took almost 10 hours. Turbo swap wasn't so bad, took another 6. I don't even know where I would start looking for spark plugs on that motor lol. They defintely sound badass though for a 4 banger.
Just pop off the intake and older WRXs, the washer fluid bottle. If you want, battery and intercooler as well for changing the spark plugs. Not too much room on the plugs closest to firewall, but not too tough. Doesn't take that long at all. Maybe 45 min the first time around? Certainly beats what I've heard about replacing plugs on a f-body. How the heck do you reach the ones buried under the cowl?
Overall I'd say they are a bit easier to work on in general than most cars. Some things are harder, some easier. Nissan 350Z, now that's annoying. Same goes for many German cars. I swear the Germans design parts to look cool on a computer screen, and give no thought to what it would be like to replace the damn part five years down the road.

I was at the track yesterday and the older WRX's are slow. The slowest one i saw ran a 16.xx at 89-90mph. Some others were 15.xx at 91-92ish. And there were some of the newer ones(one was an STi) that were running low 14's to high 13's at 97-102mph.
One of the STi's raced a '91 L98 Twin Turbo Callaway Corvette
with 8,200 miles on the clock(6 of 10, was what the owner told me). He paid $60k for it last year. The best i saw him run was a 13.5 @107mph. I think he was babying it though.

I hope the 16-second one you saw was an automatic. After all, there's only so much you're going to get from 220hp and with an automatic it's no quicker than, or maybe not even as quick as, a Hyundai Sonata.
