I'm hardly a kid and there's no way in HELL I would ever trade my car for a garbage barge! What you thinking trying to talk for everyone anyway? Everyone has their own wants/needs/goals with their own car. Just because you covet a GTO doesn't mean everyone else will. If you're 19 then you're a kid yourself. My car is paid for, it has all the creature comforts and it'll crack the *** of most GTO's. That's enough for me. If I want a quieter ride w/ a more plush interrior I'll just get into my wife's Maxima.

WTF? Have you ever launched a car with IRS?

Granted My LS1 SS was just a tad bit easier to launch than a car with IRS, but it isn't that much of difference. I've cut many, many 1.8xx - 1.9xx short time with street radials with my Z06 and have out launched 99% of LT1 and LS1 F-Bodys with street radials. Oh, I'm still running with stock clutch and have no issues with rear end.

Your Z06 weighs how much? How little for that matter. Its balanced perfect. A Z06 is NOT a typical IRS car. And it for sure is not comparable to the GTO. Look at the weight of that thing. 3800lbs and 350-400 ft-lbs TQ is more than enough to snap them puny half shafts. And uhmm, FWIW, look at MOST vettes at the track. The majority of them ARE harder to launch than a F-Body. They ARE easier to break stuff on too on a hard launch.

A GTO is a great car. But dont tell me IRS is awesome for drag racing. Look at any real 1/4 mile car. None of them will have IRS. And the ones that do, ARE traction handicapped. Look at any Supra, alot of Vettes, ... A GTO may launch well even with IRS, but I garentee you it wont take the shock of a LRA ...

And that means??? Wasn't the impala of the early 90's a 3 year design? It was no secret it was a 3 year design. That was understood in 2003.

Wasn't there some write up about the GTO being compared to 70,000 Mercedes and such. Thats pretty good for a garbage barge.I havn't said anything bad about anyones car on this board, Ever. If you own an f-body good for you. I own one too. Damn, have respect for other people. I guess the mustang guys on this board need to leave too. You should see how guys on other forums talk to each other and learn by there example. Just tired of the im not ignorant, mine is better than your's crap. Sure my Lt1 is great. But my gto has the fluffy fro froo and is a whole second faster. Love both cars but performance wise, stock for stock its clear. Hell I dont even plan on modding right now til the warranty is up.

Didn't the F-bodys stop due to a production halt also? Did you know it was going to be halted back in 98? I knew the gto was in 03. So SSR's definitely has his facts backed up for a car that is produced about 15,000 a year on a 3 year limited run...

Doesn't everyone need the warranty? I dont know anyone that hasn't used it at least once. My T/A isn't reliable but Its still a good car. Damn its like i'm talking to uneducated ****ers that ramble on in the ghetto.

Well SSR tell me what you think I should have bought then. Has to be new, RWD V8, under $30,000, and able to be reliable enough to travel 600 miles a week for the next 3 years and be decent on the track. Limited choices huh? No way in hell would I take my 9+ year old car and do that. And there is no way I'm going to buy a 3+ year used car as a daily driver. Yes a Fbod is a great 1/4 car. A gto is not a 1/4 car but it pulls out some good times. I have both because I like both. Like you said, this is a Track Kill forum. I don't recall it being a my car is better than your forum. Things to consider to is... what kind of track? Anything other than a 1/4 track and the gto shines. This forum isn't only for the 1/4 or it would say it.

Please read carefully before splattering "trash" comments, sir. There was nothing stating, "my car is better than urzz..." If you would read again I said my car suits me fine for what it is. Especially since it's still fast enough to crack the *** of most garbage barges on the road today. If you like to drive an overpriced garbage barge then more power to you. You are not what you drive. Well style is subjective. I believe its been a hot selling car for the aussies priced around 60 grand. Quality is on par with bmw, mercedes and etc. Basically because its not really GM built. The quality surprised a lot of Big name review companies. And ego? How is an opinion like... that car is trash really an opinion? And you based that on style?

Damn, I basically said good things about both cars and your talking about my ego. You probably dont even know or even attempted to know the performance aspects of the gto to make a decision other than the subjective Styling issue. Just because I dont like the way a car looks doesn't mean its trash.

And yes, before the gto came out it was meant to be a limited run 3 year car. I'll try to find the writeup for that tomorrow. Besides, the GTO is just holding me over til the new T/A comes out

To me, it does. I'd much rather spend my cash on something else. I seriously considered buying one, but after seeing the final product I changed my mind. The styling IS a bore. Everybody was also raving about the "build quality" of the 4th gen. when it came out. Now it's considered nothing less than an uncivilized dump truck. I won't count on the "build quality" of this auto to be any different. Yes I'm specifying your ego problems because you are ready to label people as "trash" for having a different opionion as yours.
No need... I've done some research regarding this. However there's also controversy with the GTO not meeting 2007 safety standards and GM not wanting to front the money to correct the problem. It's the same noise that was around after the demise of the 4th gen. There's also opionions out there that the dealers went behind the back of GM and charged outrageous prices above sticker which drove people away... BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH... Everybody's so full of sh(t...

 

Well I lived in 3 places and basically people who just say your car is trash or overpriced are 99% of the time very economically challenged. Well around my hometown that is, and it usually ended with violence and whatnot. This is basically why I went 6+ hours a way for college. I know this isn't the case but i'm just fairly used to it now. I'm just the kind of guy that can tolerate other peoples ideas, beliefs and styles. I can point out positives in just about any car but it would take a lot to call it trash. Heh it could be just generation differences... My dad was quick to say how cobalts were garbage. Well it gets 36+ mpg and starts at 12 grand. I believe thats all it was meant to do. And on the GTO. It never should have been called a GTO. This is one irk I have about the car. It has not one feature in common with the GTOs of my dads era. If it was supposed to be a reincarnation of the yester year models it was very poorly designed. For what its meant to do I believe the gto does it well. And if you considered it, I would guess that it would be far from trash... I considered lots of cars but all I can say is "They weren't what I was looking for"

 

If you would also re-read... I never called the GTO "trash". I called it a garbage barge. Meaning it weighs a **** load for what it is. I also called it a bloated Cavalier and nothing will change my opinion about that.
I don't think it's trashy looking. I just think it's a heavy, overpriced turdbucket.

 

Riiight i may be 19 , but i'm co-owner of a Chevy, nissan, and jeep dealership I've sold the GTO's brand new and driven one as a demo last year. I'm just trying to prove that you are not the badass and know-it-all that you think you are tough guy, they ARE nice cars. Why do you think everyone is arguing with you? No one cares what you think, bottom line is you don't own one. and probably haven't ever even driven one so STFU.
