Re: The LT1 is a torque monster compared to the weak a** 4.6.

Steve Y ~ My Z has 14,500 Original Miles on it

Found her all smashed up, totaled actually, in a guys garage, fixed it up, and have been runnig it ever since.

BobCosby ~ I like how an LS1 has a tourque difference up top of say 30LBS, and your like to the LS1 ... but yet an LT1 has 20lbs more down low, and its a stupid waste right.

And not to be a ****, but if under 4000RPMs or even 3000RPM's wont win races... How'd did I beat a LS1 car to 70ish? O thats funny, I guess my car and a half I pulled up to 40 helped me out when he stuck dead even at that spot from there to redline in 2nd. Im sure if it went to 3rd, he would have pulled closer, actually, possibly beat me, cause its my uncles, he can drive VERY well ( Been dragging for 30 years ) and it has a Lid w/K&N. Technically he should have me by a car or so at the end of the 1/4 ... but he cant gain it back fast enough for what I make up on the short side. Winding out first gear is probly the most important part of the race ... Launch it good, get traction, and pull as much as you possibly can before you have to shift ... So technically, idle to 3500RPM's ( Or whatever value you said it was ) is a very big part of racing, it surely makes or breaks at least 50% of street races (Not that I condone street racing, nor do I think racers should be jailed either), if not more.

And I gotta agree with the other guys, LT1 does feel touchier ... Its funner to drive around. Everytime I drive my car, its fun. I dont have to wind it the **** up for it to pin me back hard and go. 20lbs of tourque is a HUGE difference. Thats the difference of a stock car versus one with headers, a 20RWHP difference. Let me guess you cant feel a difference from such a minor mod as headers rite .

Top end is **** without a good over all powerband. I know its an extreme ... but THAT is exactly why most built Supra's suck ******.

Again not to start an LS1 VS. LT1 thread. Im jsut stating the facts. LT1 DOES have more low end grunt. IS touchier/tourqier ( Hence funner ) to drive as well.

Be fair Bob.Ls1s are usually mid to high(MORE COMMON)13 second cars, and lt1s are usually low to mid 14s.I know of a few lt1s running mid 13s,and ls1s breaking into the 12s which is remarkable.I figured before the ls1 came around you loved the lt1 didnt you bob?Dont get me wrong if I could afford it right now I would trade my lt1 in for a ls1 in a second.I prefer the low end and exhaust note of my llt1,but I like the ls1s looks, interior, aftermarket, and overall performance better.word of advice:never race a ls1 on the highway from a 55mph punch.youll lose.

So you always have your engine screaming at 4500+ rpm everywhere you go on a daily basis? That's what I thought. Low end torque is nice. It's nice to not have to shift everytime you want some power. The trouble with turbo diesels it they are slow until modded. They only come in trucks, also.

There. You heard it.

BTW....torque does win races...when multiplied by rpm. But wait! That's HP. Imagine that.

Bob Cosby ~ Your reply's get more and more rediculous each time here now.

You do realize that over at LS1 tech, the majority ( OVER 75% of the guys ) are only running mid 13's ( Say between 13.4 and 13.6) WITH at least a LID.

Go in LT1 tech, ask around. Most stock/close to stock LT1 guys run from 14 flat to 13.8. So where you get a low 14 and low 13 cars from I dont know.

You take a best example and compare it to a slower then average LT1.

I forget who it was but some guy who is AWESOME at drag racing piloted a LS1 car to a 12.8 or something like that STOCK, however he also ran a LT1 to a 13.4 STOCK. On absurd 60' times. Face the facts, your car IS NOT a full second faster in stock form than any LT1 in stock form with equal drivers. Your lucky if you have half a second lead.

Dont get me wrong, I love LS1's for what they are, If I had the money, Id be driving one, but I dont. However, LS1's are not half as tough as you make it out to be. 0-5MPH ( STUPID COMMENT OF THE YEAR RIGHT THERE )

Have you not noticed an LT1 has the same 0-60 times as a LS1 ? They gain it up from idle to 3500RPMS, and the LS1 doesnt make it up until around the top of second gear where they then walk past.

Again one more point ... Since you would much rather have your 1/2 second faster car ... How much time do you spend at the drag strip ? Realistically, it makes up what, .5% of your total time driving the car, and thats pushing it right there. Probably more like.05% of the time. Im sorry but for the other 99.95% of the time, I'd rather have the funner car to drive. Plus playing around once and a while on the street you rarely exceed 60.

Your cockyness is unreal. What mods do you have done to your LS1? O wait! ... Let me guess ... Since your car makes so much more power after 3000RPM's, you dont need mods

You are the man! Bob is . I don't know what has gotten into Bob lately. He used to be cool and help people here. Now he is nothing but a cocky jerk. Maybe he has a brain tumor or something. Maybe he overdosed on Viagra. You know how these old guys are.

Thats what bob does.He takes the best result for an ls1 a low 13,and just an average result for an lt1 a low 14 and thinks thats a fair argument.Yes Bob was cool at one time. What happened?

Reading comprehension is your friend. Did you pass your High School English class last year? If so, you should know this.

I said the comparison is stupid, because nobody (except Steve Y) races from idle to 3000 rpm.

And yes, 30 lb/ft of torque is FAR FAR FAR more valuable at say 5500 rpm than it is at 2000 rpm. Would you like an explantion why? Hint: HP = torque * rpm / 5252.

And not to be a ****, but if under 4000RPMs or even 3000RPM's wont win races... How'd did I beat a LS1 car to 70ish?
Who knows, and who cares? There so much more to what's going on than your tq figure at 4000 or 3000 rpm that it isn't even worth laughing at.

OMG. You should go race top fuel. Really.

If you need more power at launch, raise the launch rpm. If you need less, slip the clutch. Either way, torque below 3000 rpm isn't going to do squat if the driver knows what he/she is doing.

And I gotta agree with the other guys, LT1 does feel touchier ... Its funner to drive around. Everytime I drive my car, its fun. I dont have to wind it the **** up for it to pin me back hard and go.
Cool - you like to go from idle to 3000 rpm real quick too. Congrats. And if mods and drivers are equal, you'll still be way, way behind that low-torque LS1 in any realistic contest of speed - so long as you don't limit it to 3000 rpm, of course.

20lbs of tourque is a HUGE difference. Thats the difference of a stock car versus one with headers, a 20RWHP difference. Let me guess you cant feel a difference from such a minor mod as headers rite
Very difficult. But then again, I don't race much.

Top end is **** without a good over all powerband. I know its an extreme ... but THAT is exactly why most built Supra's suck ******.
ROFLOL. More voice of experience. A car will accelerate the best if average HP throughout the rpm curve is maximized. Your below 3000 rpm torque number doesn't mean squat from a racing perspective.

It will certainly help you pull that trailer though.

Again not to start an LS1 VS. LT1 thread. Im jsut stating the facts.
How quick have your facts gone? What if I told you that I have some "facts" that have gone 11.6x with less than 300 lb/ft torque at the wheels weighing ~3300 lbs? How could that happen?

LT1 DOES have more low end grunt. IS touchier/tourqier ( Hence funner ) to drive as well.
At very low rpm, sure. So does an L98. So does a Cummings diesel. And so what?

But if you think it is more fun to drive, then I'm glad you've had one. I've driven several, and owned an LS1. There is simply no comparison.

Fair? Ok. The LS1 probably has 3/4ths of a second and 5-7 mph advantage.

Personally, I consider that a lot more significant that 20 lb/ft of torque at 3000 rpm. Unless you're pulling a trailer, of course.

I figured before the ls1 came around you loved the lt1 didnt you bob?
No. Until the LS1 came into being, the only F-body I ever really wanted was the 89 TTA - though we use to own an 85Z. Before somebody goes off on that statement...I'm not saying its a bad motor or that F-body's were bad cars. They simply didn't do it for me.

Dont get me wrong if I could afford it right now I would trade my lt1 in for a ls1 in a second.I prefer the low end and exhaust note of my llt1,but I like the ls1s looks, interior, aftermarket, and overall performance better.word of advice:never race a ls1 on the highway from a 55mph punch.youll lose.
No I won't. My 99 has plenty of top end, as does my 04. However, I'm well aware of what the LS1 is capable of. My last one was a 99 T/A.

Oh, and may I suggest a little educating on this torque thing? Not be me, but I do recommend reading this.

And this.

And this.

I always find it hilarious that people will make an arguement for the superiority of the LS1 over the LT1 yet, they'll make an arguement AGAINST what Bob Cosby is trying to say.

Pound for pound, stock vs stock, take an L98 Vette vs LT1 Vette and the LT1 runs the 1/4 quicker. Put the LT1 up against the LT4 and the LT4 wins. All for the reasons Bob is trying to get across in his examples.

All kinds of people race from idle to 3000 rpm on the streets, on street tires at the track, etc.

You are a ricer. So now you like high strung engines with no torque? Why not buy a Honda and rev it to the moon? You will have hp with almost no torque, then you'll be happy.

Yeah I do think I know how you are.Did you not use a best versus and average result scenario?low 13 sec ls1 which is usually a high 13 car vs an average run for an lt1 low 14s.

Very true, but Bob is going about it wrong. Nobody likes to listen to some cocky guy with an attitude. Beside low end torque is fun and what percentage are we racing vs. cruising around town enjoying the torque?

LOL. Ok. You win. I used to race to 20 mph in 1st gear, from idle, all the time!

No you should, Bob. We need more cocky a-holes in top fuel.
Wow, that wasn't a predictable response, was it?

There you go. You could pull your trailer full of Viagra.
Funny man! Unfortunately, my trailer pulls a race car. Do you have a trailer? I suspect not, as you've already told us how little power your GT has down low.

So sad.

You are a ricer.
Coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks!

So now you like high strung engines with no torque?
Did I say that? Please, if I did, go quote me. But while you're looking for that quote, pay attention to what I did say.

Thanks.

Bzzzzt. You don't understand HP, shippy, and I have no desire to own a Honda. Sorry.

Bzzzzt. Try again, Buckwheat.

Tell you what, I'll try again. The LS1 is, on average, 6-8 tenths and 5-7 mph quicker than a similarly equipped LT1.

Its not my fault. Facts are facts.

Oh, I get it! Now we're starting to morph from racing to cruising. And maybe all that extra torque can help with gas mileage. Hmmm...maybe not. Well, it sure would pull a trailer better.
