Re: LT1 lookin shabby, danced on a 5.0

I think you can get a feel for the general quality (read: neutrality) of the Kill/Drag Race section of a board by the breadth of it's members. While it does get hot and heavy (and too personal) in here from time to time, I think that on the whole the members will (grudgingly) admit what cars are faster than other cars. I've visited some boards where if you didn't think brand X was KING, you were verbally thrashed by all. For the most part, it's not like that here.

Why not? I could get an old crotch rocket, slap on nitrous, a slick, wheelie bar and run 8s or 9s for $5000.

But that is not what he was talking about. Not a modded crotch rocket, but a real production car in its own stock form.

High end luxury cars can be ordered with hundreds of customizeable options that usually aren't available on lower priced cars....
with that said, i dont even see how there is an arguement here! if it so custom and high end , how is it so cheap! custom dont come cheap by any means. good luck

Re: LT1 lookin shabby, danced on a 5.0

my point exactly..... even if you payed as little as $20k just for the BODY.... now lets talk an 11 second motor...... we will leave the drivetrain out for now .... for an LT1 350.... crate motor... with as long as it has been out is still priced at over 4 grand for a new one from GM..... a brand new 11 second european motor...... hmm.... anyone think they would price that any less than 12 grand? ok... lets just say for arguments sake.... that the motor only cost 8 grand.... your already up a creek $28k... and thats without tax, license, labor...... or a drivetrain.... lets throw in a nice 6 speed.... or maybe an auto? either or, and a well built, balanced driveshaft... plus a decent rear end setup.......... im guessing that alone would be over 15 grand on a brand new foreign car...... especially if you want it to run 11s....so now without tax, license, or labor we are looking at $43,000....... anyone see my point yet?

the other thing i noticed.... jeff... you said it would run an 11.0... which means that if the driver lost some weight... it would probably run a 10.9...... im sorry man but god DAMN thats fast.... for a production car? maybe.... but under $50 grand? i doubt that....

STOP THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!

according to what i just looked up..... factory5 is a fuc*in replica company.... HOW THE HELL DO YOU CONSIDER THAT TO BE STOCK!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

http://www.factoryfive.com/

thats the link i got, and that tells me you are talking about a REPLICA.... which probably WOULD cost under 30 grand....... and you probably have to slap a chevy 350 in it to get it to run a decent number.... im so ashamed to even know i was speaking on a replica of a car as if it were real.... let alone stock....

Jason, you need to go and learn math all over again. Check this link.

Spend 2 grand for a donor 5.0. Use that for the kit (11,990). If the motor and tranny are in good shape, use those as well. So you COULD (with some searching) get one for under $20k. Or just buy a new tranny ($2k) new motor ($4k). So donor 5.0 (2-3k), engine (4k), tranny (2k), drivetrain (1k), kit 12k = $22,000 roughly.

I have been told that when the kit is finished the car is provided a new licensed VIN. To me that is a new production car, because of the new VIN. A kit car is still a car. Are the pieces produced in a factory? yes. = production. Thats my reasoning. You can disagree, and thats fine. I'd love to show you how real a 11 sec Factory Five Cobra is.......pull up to your house, and demonstrate a sub 13 sec run, then pull out the receipt for under $30k and Smile

Ok, I'm done.

Ok, I'm done.

ok..... allow me to retort.....

first of all... a foxbody stang of any condition is not going to be seen for only $2000...... check your local listings in the paper for an LX 5.0... much less a cobra or GT.... and you will see an average price tag for about $6,000... and thats with an "o-k" motor... possibly a 5 speed...

and second of all... its issued a new VIN for smog, safety, and resale reasons... not because its a "production car"..... will the pink slip say "Shelby" on it? or will it say something about a modified mustang...... if it doesnt just say "19XX Mustang" and thats it....

come on man.... dont try to play me off like im stupid, or that an idea like that would fly with me....... trying to slap a body of a 427 shelby cobra onto a 302 mustang chassis.... is not "production".... unless there is a new car company... "Cheapass Duplicate Motor Company".....
