Sorry guys
Re: 305 vs 4.6.. who would win?
96-97 4.6's are rated at 215 hp 285 lbs tq.the 98 are 225 hp and 285lbs..just cumputer changes and better exhaust..thoseyears usally run 5 speed are 14.5-15.2's depending on driver..on 99 and up they changed the heads, intake manifold, and cams and uped the power to 260 hp and 302 lbs tq..my twin ran his and hit a 14.0 at 98 bone stock and only driving the car for a few days..he only dynoed at 238 with a catback. pulleys, cai, tahts it i think..they just come with 327 gears from the factory and they are realitivley light....some people dip into the 13-8, 13.9 in stock trim also..
and apology accepted 85 305...no biggie

Re: 305 vs 4.6.. who would win?
mark85z28, ur right what was i thinking, lets not take the peoples word who built and desinged the car on how much it weighs, u know GM just throwin numbers out in the air. Good thing there is people like yourself to clarify me of this.
and what the fu*k already, face it people, the LT1 is a better more efficient power plant. Its more devloped, why is there still a comparison going on between the l98 and lt1? the only people who need clarifying on what motor is truely a better performer stock for stock are the ones who never acctually seen either one run, now calm down, yes a 4.6 is faster than a lg4 stock for stock, can mods reverse this? yes! end of story

Re: 305 vs 4.6.. who would win?
My best stock time was a 14.44 @ 95 with 135,000 miles. I ran a '95 LT1 Auto Z that day that put down a 14.42 @ 97. My reaction time got me the win.
As far as dyno numbers, on a Dynojet uncorrected with only March Pulleys and Flowmaster cat-back, I made 241 RWHP and 336 RWTQ on the same day a 94 LT1 auto TA with CAI and cat-back made 262 RWHP and 308 RWTQ. On the same dyno uncorrected with SLP 1 3/4" Headers I made 253 RWHP and 362 RWTQ. I've since switched to a different shop that uses a Dynojet that is SAE Corrected, numbers are in the sig. Car is basically the same, except for a SLP Loudmouth cat-back and 194,000 miles. Stills runs the same times and MPH as with the Flowmaster.

85_305 was incorrect on a few issues, but he went back, researched them and realized he was wrong and admitted it. No big deal.
You however stubbornly stick to this idea that your title's printed weight MUST be accurate because hey, it says so...
Rather than continue to spew this BS about your vehilces weight and confuse those who do not know better, weigh your cars. Not for my sake, but for yours. I'll guarantee you'll learn 3 things:
1. Your vehicles' actual weight.
2. Don't believe everything you read, like vehicle weights printed on titles...
3. A lesson in humility

Weigh it. Only way to know. Way back when my car was an untouched LG4 with a 700R4 and most power options it weighed right around 3450 with me in it. Subtract me - 185lbs - and it was lighter than any stock V8 4th gen - EVER!

Re: 305 vs 4.6.. who would win?
Average curb weights for m/t hardtops from what I have seen: '85 Z28 3300 lbs. '94 Z28 3450 lbs. '98 Z28 3400 lbs. Someone must have an accurate link to the curb weight of an '85 Z28?
Re: 305 vs 4.6.. who would win?
ok marck85z where do "you" think they got that number on the title? what do u think GM doesnt know the weight of everycar ever shipped down to the nearest lb? Something called DOT ever hear of them? exactly so if GM doesnt weigh these cars in full trim they would have no idea how many to ship per truck load. If DOT stops a truck load of frieght to one of those road side scales and he is over weight what do u think will happen? SO again where do "you" think they got the number from?\

Here's an LS1 beatdown by a 305. Notice the LS1 flyby at the end.
