I have heard that the 01 & 02 models stock manifolds flow almost what shorties do but pre 01 didn't flow quite as well. 98-00 LS1's would gain 5-7 RWHP or something like that from shorties. Still a waste of time IMO. LT's are the only way to go.

All I know is when I searched in the LT1 forum the guys there were saying you get 20-25 RWHP gains from LT's. This is LT1 guys telling other LT1 guys that they can expect to gain these numbers. I would think if LT1's gained 35-40 RWHP that my search in the LT1 section would have found people confirming those numbers. I'll do some more searches in some other LT1 forums and see what I can dig up on LT header gains.

I was still only seeing people claiming 25 RWHP from Lt's on thier LT1's after a second search in another LT1 forum. However, I did see a thread where a guy claimed to dyno 315 RWHP with his LT1 after just CAI, Hooker LT's and all free mods. Now when other LT1 guys chimed in most said the numbers were a bit high and gave him props. But then they started chiming in with what they were dynoing back when they had just Lt's, cai and minimal other free mods the general rwhp reported was around 300-305.

I was very impressed to say the least. Those are fantastic numbers for just exhaust, cai and free mods. I tell you what this whole thread makes me want to run out and get me some LT headers right now

But I have an auto so torque converter is first

This is all bench racing, but 5.5 mph does not equal 25-30 rwhp no matter how u slice it. I have no doubt the car would have trapped 106 or so with LTs as have MANY others.
I think the problem here is a lack of communication. I think 97bowtie means long tubes with full exhaust and a cai on an otherwise stock LT1 will give the 45-50 rwhp gain. He was saying long tubes and cai until this post. If you took a bone stock LT1 and added cai and long tubes only, with a stock y pipe and stock cat-back I seriously doubt the gain would be 50 rwhp.

Take another look in the LT1 Tech forum. There is guys with 300rwhp and stock manifolds still. Add LTs and 315rwhp shouldn't be hard to get.

A friend of mine has gone 14.6@92mph in a stock M6 96 Z28 and a cutout and a vortec elbow. As I am in El Paso thats about a mid 13. Is it a freak of nature? Who knows. Maybe the person that sold it to him didn't tell him if he put anything in it. I and the rest of the club I am in have told him that there are extras in there that maybe he doesn't know about.
Another friend of mine has 3.73's, TB Bypass, cutout,CAI and has managed a 14.26@94mph with his 94 Z28 T-56 car. Lt1's are not to be taken lightly. Love them LT1's they get sideways on a launch love that feeling wish my TPI did that all I get is spinning spinning and more spinning.

If you drove one , you wouldnt be wondering at all , because you would know .
A stock LT1 would lose yes. But I'm talking like a M6 LT/CAI LT1. I have raced a few ls1s on hwy runs in my time. I don't get why you think they pull so much harder up top. I raced a 02 T/A M6 against my LT1 and our first race from a 80mph roll to 145mph he didn't gain 1" on me. No competition? Are you sure those LT1s were even racing you? Or were they stock?

But there was also a 94 formula with LT's and FIPK who dynoed 287 RWHP. Not everyone gets the same results. And he was an M6 not an A4. But I did notice a lot of guys with CAI, LT's & cutout dynoing 300 rwhp. I still consider that very good for less then 1k in bolt-ons. Point is 315 rwhp for just Lt's and CAI can happen but isn't a guarantee to every LT1 out out there. Some do that well and others do not.

But like I said I'm impressed that just exhaust and cai can bring a LT1 from 250 rwhp to 300 rwhp. That's awesome IMO.

And just for the record I think anyone who races to 140 on a PUBLIC highway should get bitch slapped. That's insane, dangerous and could easily end in you and potentially inocent motorists getting killed. I've pissed off a few mustangs, ricers and fellow F-bodies because they wanted to race me on the highway when I'm all ready doing 75. I just shake my head and go about my business. I'm not gonna widow my wife or risk my license getting suspended so some goofball can get his kicks.

I have plenty of fun at the track. And maybe a few occasional wot runs coming off a street light in a 45 or 50 mph zone. 0-60 in these cars can be a lot of fun

Too bad it only takes 4.7 seconds to get there

Oh wait that's a good thing

Not one LT1 person I have ever talked to has ever claimed a 50 HP gain from headers . Not 1 ! And I know dozens . Because they all know better then to make such a stupid claim . Im sure there wil be varibles but the most you would see is 20 HP ....maybe with enough bolt ons , 25 tops .
I never said 50 rwhp with JUST headers you dumbass! OMG are you really this fu(kin stupid or is this an act? Given the fact that you can barely form a coherent sentence, it doesn't surprise me that your reading comprehension skills are on par with a third grader.

SteveY - You're right, some of this is my fault as well. I never did say with a catback/or cutout...but I assumed (my fault when dealing with people like robb4964) that 98% of people who put LTs on their wouldn't mate it up to the factory catback...and if they did, they would have a cutout.

Darren - looks like your further research fully supports my claim. Thankyou.

M6's at least. Seems us autos still fall a bit short in the dyno game. But that's why we get High stall torque converters Muhahaha!

13.09 @ 108.54 vs. 13.01 @ 109.22.

well it would be a very good race, im sure you would win 90% of the time from a stop. from a roll it would be a toss up, but im sure you wouldnt "roll" on me, especially considering i got longtubes now.

Looks like we have another internet tough guy .Look stupidass, I got a NEWS FLASH FOR YA , I just put headers on an LT1 this morning . LT's with CAI and gears , 5 of us went out to eat after that . GUESS WHAT GOT SPANKED ON THE HIGWAY ...thats right , your LT1 w/LT's running thrue a y-pipe. I spanked it on the highway just this monrning , I have only a lid . And Ill gladdly put the smack down on your car . Just bring your " SUPER FREAK " LT1 on up here . Im sick of all this **** talking . there is no damn way you got 50 HP with those mods .
The stock manifold on the lt1 isnt worthy of a tercel , But these minor mods are not going to give you the10 billion HPyou are claiming . As for reading and comprehension , I understand everything you said well . And im smart enough to know that its BS . Im sure htere is HP to be gained . Maybe even alot , but these will not be typical for all LT1's and its rare to see such great gains .

Its not what do I think , its what I know .I feel like im explaing this to a bunch of little kids . The LS1 has a way superior head desighn and flows much better . Like I said , ill race your LT , CAI LT1 . You guys dont seem to understand that I have drove them . Drove in them . Owned them . I have had more exp. in both cars then either of you . Im sick of arguing with people who dont have the real world experience with both cars . Im calling it how I have seen it . Granted there are a few really good running LT1's with these mods I have seem some that wont break 13's . The majority wont . And I could take my bone stock LS1 and put it on drag radials and run a 12 all day long . There is nearly a 60 HP difference form the factory between LT1`'s and LS1's
I know your gonna say " 275 vs 305 = a differnce of 30 . But 90% of the stock LS1's are already hitting 290-305 to the wheels .
WHere LT1's are hitting 230-260 . Thats from 30 to 75 HP difference at the wheels difference . So in some cases you could put on LT's and CAI and add maybe 30 RWHP . Still not up to par yet with most LS1's . Why deny the obvious truth ?
