02 Trans AM vs. 350Z

..... this guy is in for a rude awakening!!

I don't think a 350Z has quite the top end he thinks it does. Then again, I don't consider them to have any bottom end either. I've just seen too many of 'em run mid 14s or slower for them to really get my attention.
This thread may have motivated me to attend the local import track day next month. Maybe I can run a few to see what they're capable of in person. I hope they consider my plain sedan an easy victim.

However in contrast to a WS6 or really any LS1 F-Body stock for stock with decent drivers the LS1 historically will win. We all know on any day you can have a bad run (at least thats the word on the street ) But bad runs aside you shouldnt have any problem at all making all of your F-Body family proud.

I don't really consider 14.0 @ 99 fast. My 95 Camaro did that bone stock and it is 12 years old.
#36
That's my point. My mom's Hyundai Azera can trap 99-100 mph and it's a large sedan. A v6 Camry does it too. 14.0 @ 100 is basically average these days. A car whose best timeslip may eek out a 13.8 - 13.9 has no business talking that kind of smack to an LS1.
I read somewhere that Nissan's v6 is larger (external dimensions) and weighs more than the LSx series of engines from GM. Pushrods or not, it sounds like the v8 is winning where it counts.

I could prob f#ck him up with my Tahoe!
Just curious, how much does that piece of **** cost anyway?, because its prob mid 30's. Waste of money if you ask me.
Mr. 14 sec. got to see an 11.80 car in action that night.

If you want to get into dollars... a 350Z with a turbo setup would walk an 11.8 Corvette for well under the Vette's asking price. You'd have to take him to the twisties to keep up.
Also, they aren't pieces of **** by a long shot. Go spend some time in one. If you want to be very fast for cheap, an F-body is the way to go. But Nissan Z cars from the 80s don't have the rattles, squeaks, cracked dash, fading plastic panels and drooping doors my 97 Formula does.

That sounds about right. Stock vs. stock the Z is a great contender for the LT1. I've personally piloted my brother's bone stock 350 to a 13.8@100.8 mph. These guys saying that they are nothing to worry about just haven't run into one with a decent driver yet. If you've got a relatively stock LT1, don't take this car lightly. If you run into someone who can actually drive and launch the car, it'll give you a hell of a run, if not beat you. An LS1 doesn't have much to worry about though.

My LT1 is pretty much stock and I take them very lightly unless I hear a turbo. Then they are only mid 12's. I saw one at the track and it was junk.

I've seen a buddie's 95 Camaro run back to back 14.5's@97 and I've seen my brother's 96 LT1 Corvette run a best of 14.0@99. So quit with the b.s that your LT1 makes the 350 look like junk. Check out the link below. That 350 trapped over 101 mph @14 flat and it wasn't even the 300 hp version. How can you possibly take it lightly? What do you run?

A turbo 350Z will not walk a 11.8 sec Vette. It might be a close race if the Z has a ton of boost, but it will certainly not walk it. A turbo will not shave off over 2.5 sec in the 1/4. Also for your claim that it will be for far less then the asking price of a Vette, remember that an LS1 Vette could be had for high 30s, an optioned out Z will easily be mid 30s, then take what you would need to put into the Z as opposed to the Vette to get them each into the 11s, and the Vette is the better buy. The 350 Z is far from junk however, its just not as fast as a mod for mod LT1 or LS1.

Once both guys start modding, then all bets are out the window, unless it's simple things like CAI & exhaust.
But like I said earlier ... my friend who raced the 350Z with his TA was the 14.5 second car, and he said they were about even (but I also know that his car can't hook up). So again, I say that an LT1 that can hook should have no problem with a 350Z, and an LS1 will make a fine mess out of one!!

Yep, I thought I would have a better chance than they acted. I know that the're quick cars. I get tired of hearing that anything DOHC and japanese are amazingly fast.
I was at a light this morning I pulled up next to a Ram SRT10. Man, I was excited. We both hit it at about the same time, I hooked up pretty damn good and pulled away while he was still spinning the tires. We shut down at about 70 but it was fun though. He would have probly beat me in the 1/8th though if he hooked up.
How would a RamSRT10 do vs. aFord Lightning
