Sloppy Wandering

Just put some 17x9 ZR1's with 275/40/17's on my 97 Z28. It had 16x8 245/50/16 from the factory. I noticed when I pulled the 16's off that they are a little worn on the outer edge so i figured it needs an alighnment. After putting the 17's on, it seems the car wanders as if the front end was sloppy. Is this normal? And will an alignment correct this?

May need an alignment, may need ball joints. Jack the front up, grab the wheel at top & bottom and see if you can wiggle it back and forth. If there is a good amount of play, you need ball joints. You will also need an alignment after ball joints.

Re: Sloppy Wandering

Sometimes just changing tires can give you more wander. When I rotated my BFGs to the back and Pirellis to the front I noticed more loosness. Although you should still check your suspension out, the larger tires could just be amplifying a problem. Ball joints and tie rod ends are the usual culprits.

Re: Sloppy Wandering

it might be tracking too
the bigger tires will tend to track the normal road grooves more than the stock 16x8s
