steering wander/drift
My 98 z28 has a problem that I am not sure is common with all other f-bodies or is just a prob with mine. When driving down the road at highways speeds on a road that has "ruts" (where the asphalt has sunk due to that part of the road getting the most traffic), the car will steer itself back and forth from left to run in and out of the ruts. another related problem is whenever i hit bumps at slow speeds, it causes the steering wheel to jerk to onse side or the other. I bought my car used so I don't know if something was screwed up in the steering before I got it. What it seems is that the car is maybe supposed to be equiped with some sort of steering stabilizer, but isnt on or something, because the steering wander is just aweful. The steering is real tight, so it doesn't seem as if anything is worn in the front end. If anyone had some suggestions or advice, let me know.

It's normal, you've got wide tires that like to follow the ruts on the road. I especially get it when I break from a high speed on a road that has ruts. I have to hold the steering wheel pretty tightly to keep going straight. To be on the safe side, I would have the wheel alignment checked. More than likely it's just the wide tires.

normal??!?! uggghh! I didn't want to hear that. I wish it was a problem because then I could just fix it. Its really aggravating trying to keep the car straight when it wants to pull to the left and right. Oh well, guess I'll just get used to it. Thanks for the replies.

I had it aligned about a month ago and the tires are good. it doesnt pull consistently, as if the alignment was bad, only on certain roads. But it just doesnt seem like a normal thing a car should do. I just cant see gm selling a car that would do something like that. Is there some sort of steering stabilizer I could put on there?

Mine does the same thing, I have a 2000 SS with 275s all around 18Kmi. I just got an alignment and it still does it, but not as much. my tires have a little bit of uneven wear but not that much, not enough where it should make a difference.
