borla muffler vs. flowmaster 80

I've got a flowmaster 80 series on my 94 z28, and the sound isn't as refined as I'd like it. The tone at idle is pretty choppy and reminds me of a harley! i sound is aggressive at high rpms, but it's the sloppy sounding idle that bothers me. how would it sound with a universal borla turbo muffler on there instead? also, can a turbo-xl fit, and what's the advantage of the larger muffler? (I only have intake, no headers) Maybe my ears are just spoiled cause my dad's c5 has a b&b triflo!

Don't know about their universal mufflers, but borla usually has a refined note. The cars I've heard with borla on sound good, but not as aggressive as I like. I'm sure the idle would sound way better than flows though, the resonance (you know that droning sound) at idle pisses me off. As far as the larger muffler I doubt it would increase flow too much if the pipes weren't bigger.

okay, looking at the borla website, it seems that the turbo-xl is the only single-in/dual-out universal muffler. does anyone know the part number of the muffler used in the z28 catback system?

If you want a quality purr, get the borla "rear section". The borla adjustable catback will sound choppy because it's a cutout, but the borla rear section runs all the exhaust through a straight through muffler and sounds very good. It's only 2.75" tubing, but the exhaust is cool by then and it's straight through so that shouldn't hurt you compared to a flowmaster. You'll also get those phat lookin intercooled tips. I don't think borla makes a generic dual exit muffler so you'd be forced to go single exit if you don't get the 'rear section'.

Where did you see this borla turbo muffler with dual exits?

I have one clip of it WOT, but none at idle. The idle was very nice on it IMO.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ME:B:EOAS:US:3 There is one i just sold, has the part numbers and links to the sound clips in it.

I don't think you can buy just the muffler, but i never really tried either.

FYI, you don't want the one used in the catback. THe one in the catback is a single in dual out on the same side. The psg side of the catback is just a cutout dump, only the drivers side exhaust goes through a muffler. You want the muffler out of the "rear section" like i posted above. The rear section does not include the intermediate pipe like the catback does.
