I'm not going to be able to make the 21st either. I'll be in China on business.

Keep me posted if the date moves again, its been too long man.

Re: Putting together a "Motor City Detail Day"

If it is starting to look like the 21st is just no good for many, I will move it to later in the year.

I am doubting that the 21st will work anyway. The weather is just sucking like always.

Timing doesn't matter much, as long as we just do it...I just want to get together with my friends again. As Jacob said, it has been too long.

Should we move it to later in the year?

The event's already been a success in my book. It got me to turning wrenches again, and now the engine is back & ready for re-installation. So whatever works, we'll try and get there.

Re: Putting together a "Motor City Detail Day"

I must be the only one where the 21st works a lot better for me. Tomorrow would be awful for me since I'm backed up on work something wicked.

In either case, are any of you cruising Woodward or Gratiot yet? Me and my wife were out last weekend and seen some cars, some at the gas station and some in front of that plaza with Caribou Coffee.

Someone has a black 5th gen where it looks like he chrome plated the stock wheels.

If the weather is OK (30% chance!), I'll be out on Woodward tomorrow night...

YES WE SHOULD! These last 2 months of on & off rain has been horrible. This will give us another event to look forward to down the road!!!!

Cancelling today was the right call. It was sh*tty weather this morning and looks like that trend will continue later this afternoon.

Re: Putting together a "Motor City Detail Day"

Is it something that we have to "reserve" the parking lot for, or will the parking lot be essentially empty anyways on a Saturday? If it's the latter, then we could just keep moving it to a Saturday where the weather is actually nice.

I just have to put my two boxes of "car detail" stuff in the trunk, wash the car and drive over and hang out for a few hours with a few other guys. No big deal.

We do have to plan a little bit ahead, just to be courteous to the shop owner. It is is 5 of us, not a big deal. 15-20...we need to give a bit more notice.

It was a good day for putting an engine back into the car, which I did.

Re: Putting together a "Motor City Detail Day"

Okay, here's the deal on this...

As much as I wanted to make this a "beginning of the season" sort of thing, the timing and weather doesn't seem to jive with people. That's how it goes, which is probably why these things don't seem to happen as often as they used to.

Moving it to the 21st due to rain on the 14th may result in not a lot of people being there. This is actually not a big deal, it doesn't have to be big and all that, but now it looks like I myself may not be able to be there.

UGH...

So let's take it in a slightly new direction...

Instead of it being a single day, and since there are a lot of car shows throughout the summer, I have an idea. Going forward it will be the "Motor City Detail Days.

The core idea will be the same, but with the following changes...
  • We will do this a few times over the summer, on a sort of "whenever we can put it together, kinda casual" basis.
  • They will probably be on Saturdays or in some cases, maybe even a Friday nights.
  • I will try to post when I will secure the parking lot at least teh Wednesday before.
  • I will try to make them the weekends before big show weekends.
  • It won't matter if there is just me there or a bunch of us. It will be "whoever can make it".

I mean, it doesn't have to be very structured or anything. I was trying to make it all cool and feature-packed but it doesn't have to be. Heck...you don't even need me to do it!

I will make a new thread since it changed direction slightly, and that will be the one where I post on a weekend and say "Hey! I will be there this Saturday from 10-2...anyone wanna join me?" and see where it goes!

However, I still want to do one BIG one (that was to be for this month) so I am going to shoot for August 13, the Saturday/weekend before the "official" Woodward Dream Cruise weekend. I think that might work out well.
