Nice thing about the LT4 springs package ( seat, spring, retainer ) is they are designed for the LT1 head so they just drop in. They're nothing too radical that you need to worry about checking each one and doing shims.

When we did Ron's the springs install hieght was questionable since we were installing them near where they could bin cause of the big cam ( That would be big compared to stock, not big compared to ProjectZ28! ). So we measured each spring during the install to ensure they were all set perfect. turned out we didn't need to use shims because they were all very close to where wanted them.

To get the proper spring pressure and not run into coil bind the springs must be set at a specific height. Say 1.80 is what the manufactor suggest. So when you install the spring when you meassure ayou may need to use shims. But don't confuse shims with seats. Spring seats come in different thickness, and retainers so as well. So you need to select them as well to get the proper spring install height. Normally shims aren't required. I can only remember using them on old motors where I assume vavle jobs over the years change the valve seats.

So that set-up are you looking to install?
