Why do people run exhaust over the axle instead of under?

symmetrical with bullet mufflers and turndowns in front of the
axle.
I guess anyone with piping, a chop saw and welder can
offset the X-pipe anywhere they want. But why?

Who cares if it looks strange....I can't see the underside of my car very easily, and I bet you can't either

I wouldn' t do it. I bought a camaro that someone did that to the exhaust, and I scrape it sometimes. I bet it flows better, but if you are running 3 inch exhaust it won't make that much of a difference.

I did duals under the axle swept to the pass side
I wouldn't do it again because of the ungodly weight of all the pipe
It worked JUST FINE! No bumping problems at all. It's just way to damn heavy!
I will be dumping after the x-pipe now

Just look how close everything is to the ground.... not a problem on a track car.

Oh well you're probably from boulder co, if you are, your comment would make complete sence.

It WAS in fact fettucini alfredo, and those were NOT 2 chicks kissing!
That was my buddy who has a a 10 sec LS1 383 dressed in DRAG kissing his GF at a haloween party last year
But I digress....
The duals under the axle are not the best idea, but I said F'it, and tried it.
My car is undergoing a drivetrain transplant right now, and I'll be cutting
the pipe from the x-pipe back, and I may relocate the bullets to dump
under the passenger backseat area.
DUALS TO THE BACK ARE EXCESSIVLY HEAVY!
^^Tell your friends^^
It's a lot of F'n pipe!

Re: Why do people run exhaust over the axle instead of under?
The duals are heavy but when I swapped rears to my 8.8" Ford I cut my exhaust about 2' before the rear. So it didn't have any mufflers just the x-pipe after the headers and thats it (about 3' of pipe). I brought my car to the track the next day b/c I didn't have time to put the rest of my exhaust back on. Well the 50 pounds or so that the exhaust weighed made no difference in ET or MPH. So I put the exhaust back on and drove the car to the track and it ran almost identical ET's before and after. 10.20's@132mph with 175HP NX with exhaust and stock rear with 3.42's then 10.20's@132mph open exhaust and new rear with 3.55 gears and finally 10.20's@132mph exhaust back on. The ET varied a couple hundreths but this was 3 different days all in the same month. Later Clint
