I bet that looks strange. I also have Hooker LT's and built mine
symmetrical with bullet mufflers and turndowns in front of the
axle.

I guess anyone with piping, a chop saw and welder can
offset the X-pipe anywhere they want. But why?

Because there is more room and fewer obstructions routing piping on the passenger side, therefore, offsetting the x-pipe to the passenger side makes total sense. If you're smart about its placement, itself accounts for one the bends required of the offset.

Who cares if it looks strange....I can't see the underside of my car very easily, and I bet you can't either

I wouldn' t do it. I bought a camaro that someone did that to the exhaust, and I scrape it sometimes. I bet it flows better, but if you are running 3 inch exhaust it won't make that much of a difference.

I did duals under the axle swept to the pass side
I wouldn't do it again because of the ungodly weight of all the pipe
It worked JUST FINE! No bumping problems at all. It's just way to damn heavy!
I will be dumping after the x-pipe now

enjoy

I initially saw the topic and thought it was a joke. Worst idea ever.

That looks like John McMullin's 25th Aniv TA. It was strictly a track car... never driven on the street. See photo below.... there's 2,000+ HP between those two cars.....

Just look how close everything is to the ground.... not a problem on a track car.

Dont have to be an @ss and make fun of people's ideas. Quite a few have posted and say that it worked just fine. LOL you probably think true duals are a bad idea, because it doesnt retain the stock design.

Oh well you're probably from boulder co, if you are, your comment would make complete sence.

Re: Why do people run exhaust over the axle instead of under?

It WAS in fact fettucini alfredo, and those were NOT 2 chicks kissing!
That was my buddy who has a a 10 sec LS1 383 dressed in DRAG kissing his GF at a haloween party last year

But I digress....
The duals under the axle are not the best idea, but I said F'it, and tried it.
My car is undergoing a drivetrain transplant right now, and I'll be cutting
the pipe from the x-pipe back, and I may relocate the bullets to dump
under the passenger backseat area.

DUALS TO THE BACK ARE EXCESSIVLY HEAVY!
^^Tell your friends^^
It's a lot of F'n pipe!

Re: Why do people run exhaust over the axle instead of under?

The duals are heavy but when I swapped rears to my 8.8" Ford I cut my exhaust about 2' before the rear. So it didn't have any mufflers just the x-pipe after the headers and thats it (about 3' of pipe). I brought my car to the track the next day b/c I didn't have time to put the rest of my exhaust back on. Well the 50 pounds or so that the exhaust weighed made no difference in ET or MPH. So I put the exhaust back on and drove the car to the track and it ran almost identical ET's before and after. 10.20's@132mph with 175HP NX with exhaust and stock rear with 3.42's then 10.20's@132mph open exhaust and new rear with 3.55 gears and finally 10.20's@132mph exhaust back on. The ET varied a couple hundreths but this was 3 different days all in the same month. Later Clint
