As shown in the links he has built, tuned and raced his 388 c.u. LT1 that has run 9.7's engine only. Last year he decided to help a few others go faster by sharing his knowlegde and getting Erson and just recently Crane Cams to grind custom cams that Joe developed. I myself jumped from a 12.95 @ 109 to a 12.02 at close to 117 with one of his cams and some head work on my not so hot (out of the box) AFR 195 heads. Since then he has put a cam in an LT1 Impala SS that broke his tranny out testing his new combo (Tin Shed ported LT1's and Joe cam) and an L98 3rd gen that ran 11.6 with just a cam swap. There are a few others out there that I don't know all the details on.

Joe is certainly developing a good rep. If you are interested in a custom cam you might also consider contacting Bret Bauer. He advertises on this board and is very knowledgable.

Good rep for sure, but i found out what he charges for a cam $ $

EDIT: I was talking about joe, not bret.

Sure do, but i think its ludicrous to pay what he wants for "knowledge". You can get any cam you want ground for ~250, the rest of it was just inflation b/c its got his name on it.

You don't get something for nothing, unless it's a gift. I don't know if Joe is in/going in to business. If he's knowledgable and willing to share that knowledge for free, as a friend, great. If he's running a business though expect to pay for his hard earned knowledge. Bret is a good guy who shares a LOT of knowledge freely here. But if you want to hire him, expect to pay. His rates are very reasonable for what he knows. A couple of hours of his time plus the price of the cam would put you in the $325-375 range depending on the cost of the core. A little less if less time is needed (como he already has a lot of data on) or a little more if it's very complicated).

The principle applies to any transaction like this. If you want a generic "custom" cam it will be a hundred bucks plus cheaper than a true "custom". The true custom will involve an hour or two of setting up and running a sim, conversations with the customer over needs/wants, and a bit of thinking (where the experience really comes in). Do you need it? The more unusual your combo is, the more the answer is "yes".
