When your 10 bolt goes...?

I was just wondering when everyone talks about blowing out there 10 bolts what exact parts are breaking in the rear? Is it the axles or gears or what? Just curious and was wondering if you guys could fill me in on it.

Yeah, mostly gears. I've only broke 1 set in 3 1/2 years with my auto running times in the low low 11's.

I broke 2 1/2 teeth off of my pinion gear. I was running down the Autobahn at the time. Thankfully it didn't lock up.

Yes... 3 ring gear teeth. Last April at the MTI spring break shootout. I got third in the 11 second index.

Nice wrinkle on the slicks eh? Hahaha... I drove 150 to the track, raced, then got 50 miles toward home when the differential when "POP!, Thunka, Thunka, Thunka, ....". Now I have a friends 2:73 10 bolt till I get a 'real' differential.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. But what makes the gears in a 12 bolt so much stronger then that they don't break as easy?

A 12-bolt stronger primarily because it's bigger.
