I recently bought the Walboro 255lph in tank pump from musclemotors.com for about $125. Easy change, and I did it from the top by cutting the whole, and I had a full tank of gas. Just get a floor fan blowing hard, use a dremel or a battery powered cutting saw and go at it.

Valid arguments for and against...its your call, but I prefer this way since in the future all I have to do is remove 8 screws and I can change it in 20 minutes vice 2+ hours.

I just installed my Racetronix system by cutting the hole, only took me about 2hrs total to do the install.

Yes there are valid arguements for and against.
I changed my window motor by drilling holes in my door, (GASP) I drilled holes in my car!!!!
Get over it. Its your car so you be the judge on what you want to do: 2, 3 or more hours pulling the tank or 1 or 2 hours cutting a hole that no one is going to see so it makes things easier.
GM should have made this access hole to begin with so I have no problem making my life a little easier.

Its your car though so your decision is final and what really counts here.
Good Luck.
Just for the record, I paid someone else to change the fuel pump in my 88 IROC cause I did not have a place to do it myself and I have vowed never to pay someone 500 bucks to do something I can do in 20 minutes after the access hole is there.

If you want to be "SAFE" about it, use tin snips instead of the dremail, its alot faster and safer. I did mine in less than 30 min., that's with cutting the whole and installing the pump. I used a 1/2" drill bit to make the first whole and tin sniped the rest out, real clean and no sparks at all. I Used a pice of metal off a old hood I had at work and some sheet metal screws with some seamsealer under it.

Good Luck Sean

Well I have a couple weeks before I'm going to do it so I'll think about it. I certainly don't want to pay $500 to have a $150 part installed. Thanks for all the input guys.

The BBK, Grant, Holley and Racetronix pumps are all made by Walbro.

The difference is that Racetronix modifies the pump specifically in order to be as close to a true factory LT1 replacement. Special hardware is supplied to make it as PnP as possible.
