yes the caprice hub is diff. I bought a caprice short block to build up to put in my Camaro and when i got the motor in the pulleys didn't line up and it was because the hub is diff. I believe the caprice hub is longer or something because it wouldn't work with my Fbody pullies.

Was it the balancer wouldn't go on or the belt? I need to use the caprice one to go to the machine shop for the peice I need to get this thing off. Are the bolts gonna line up? I'm hopin just the hub was too long, so the belt wouldn't go on right.

it was over a year ago. I believe that the hub was too long and so the belt wouldn't sit on the balancer. We couldn't get the caprice hub off and since i didn't need it, my dad took an air chisel off and hammered on the hub on all sides until it came off.

Re: welp, i'm boned. broke crank hub while on the car

Well, great after about a week of fiddling with this god damn thing after work. I grinded down a lip to attach a 3 jaw puller onto. Well, what a suprise it broke. That's right a 2 ton 3 jaw puller broke. So, I went back to auto zone and got the 5 ton 3 jaw puller, but there's absolutely no way to get it to work. It's just too big, there's no way for it to get a good grip. I'm thinking tomorrow, I'm gonna go get another 2 ton and try again. If it breaks again, I'm cutting it down the middle even more taking a ****ing chisel and splitting the son of a bitch down the middle. I'm running out of options here, anyone?

I figured people would want pics, here we go. Here's what my crank hub looks like now...

Here's the POS 2 ton 3 jaw puller, you can see the crack in the prong.

Sure glad I dropped that 1000 on a cam and opti.

Just get a torch and heat it up, then use a pair of welding gloves to pull it off.

You're going to win this battle just hang in there. Once you get the puller installed and ready to go add the heat to the hub. Also, have someone else hitting the hub with a ballpeen hammer to add some shock load to the hub. Make absolutely positive sure your bolt in the center of the crank that the puller is pushing against hasn't bent and a bit too short. Pulling pressure, heat and shock...you are going to win.

I don't have a heating gun or the money to buy one. I'll try to borrow one and see what happens.

Finally, it's off. I broke another 3 prong puller, so I flipped it around and tried the other side. It FINALLY came off. Here's some pics of the hub all hacked up.
