Don't know if your already doing this but I use the corvette filter, its about 1/3rd longer. After my rebuild I felt it would help get the extra crap gettin in the oil Dino won't hurt it, so long as your doing the changes right I did a medium break in. Easy for the first few days and a good bit of highway driving then a little bit of WOT here and there on the hwy... 10000 later the cars running great now

Too big a risk in assuming XYZ Race Shop can bore and hone a cylinder that breaks in properly on synthetic.

I agree... a good bore/hone job machined specifically to the ring type used will ensure a quick break in, but you're better off using the dino oil before making the switch.

Not sure why the misconception of superior results with/of an 'easy' breakin, is still popular today. Other than methods/habits of decades gone by, being hard to break, believe deliberate misinformation spread by oem (particularly via of their manuals) is a major contributor. While oem does do their 'homework', and insists on having/making money available for quality tooling and operator training, that results in an EFFECTIVE cylinder wall prep, it is not state-of-the-art, from my POV, to warrant/expect superior breakin with synthetics. At least, not in regards to what is being used/tested in state-of-the-art engine development establishments, by the CRs in the business, anyway.

Another misconception is the wall finish (A.A./R.M.S. or whatever), plateau/valley notwithstanding, necessary for a superior breakin. Maybe this is a carryover from up to 35 years ago, when race engine builders attempted to accomplish the breakin 'manually', with up to, and including mirror finishes. Or was that done for less friction? Anyway, believe walls are too 'smooth', AFAIC.

I used dino for the first 5k. I had oil analysis done at 2k,3k and 5k. Metals were high at 2k due to break in ....metals were lower at 3k but still high....at 5k metals were in the normal range. I changed over to Amsoil 10w40 at that point. So looking at the overall outcome of all the analysis , I could have went syn at 3k in my case. 5k is a good number on a rebiuld IMO.
