Question Change to Synthetic

I just bought a 1998 Z28 Convertible. It is in nice condition and has 29,000 miles. I'm assuming that it has only had dino oil for its life and was wondering other's experience in switching to synthetic at this point?

Any opinions good or bad? I love the virtues of synthetic oils but don't want to open a can of worms. My opinion is that at 29,000 miles I can still add synthetic oil, but then again the car is 5 years old. So I want others opinions.

Do a search about synthetic oil, there are many topics on it. Its never too late to switch over to synthetic, you can do it anytime

Thanks. I'll do a search; however, my understanding is that on older engines running dino, that switching to synthetic could make leaks where there never were, due to the slicker qualities of the synthetic oil. Leaks at gaskets and seals mainly.

For example you shouldn't switch a car to synthetic that has say 80K miles on it, it will leak oil. My question is about switching at say 30K.

I switched from regular to synthetic oil, so far, no leaks, and my car has pretty high miles, considering I drive it around 700 miles a week. Expect to pay around $35.00 for a case of Mobil 1 oil, tax incuded, and around $3-5 bucks for the filter, considering you do it yourself. I did it myself to save myself from the $50-60 bucks to have the oil and lube places around here do it. I'm pretty sure the switch from regular to synthetic oil won't cause any leaks.

You should be fine! Make the switch and keep using it. It is not good to switch to dino oil after using synthetic...

I suggest using Mobil 1 & M1-206 filter...

Oh yeah, I'd definately use Mobil 1, I'm a big fan. I will keep researching about the filters. Want to change it now and do an analysis at 3k miles.

My 2000 had 52k on it when I bought it and the sticker under the hood showed the previous owner used dino oil. I changed to synthetic the day I drove it home and so far no leaks and no problems. Just my $.02
