Oil Help ! Synthetic Bad ?

Ok i got my 95 z28 about 3 months ago, i have never put synthetic in it before but i want to make the change to it. I have 76000 miles. I heard that synthetic is bad for an older engine with lots of miles because it totally cleans it out the engine (like detergeant) and makes the engine leak more than it regulary would because it has removed gunk that would normaly seal up leaks . I also hear that synthetic is the best oil to use but if its going to make my engine leak more or possilby lose compression i dont want to use it. Finally i heard once you make the switch to synthetic you should never switch back because it gums up your engine. If this is true, howcome switching to synthetic from regular oil wont cause this but vise versa will.

It all really depends with the shape of your motor. My IROC is 15 years old with 65,000 miles. When I put synthetic in, no leaks at all to this day.

edit:

WTH does it have to do with compression

use synthetic... if you get leaks then you WOULD have gotten leaks and your engine is not nominal... just fix them and yes once you switch to snth. don't switch back. synth. coats everything with (i forget the word) its a good thing.... but if you go back to regular oil afterwards... it takes that coating off and can burn up.... you do worry too much

It won't hurt your engine. It is more likely to find leaks due to the fact it flows better. It doesn't break down, coke(coffee colored hard stuff you see in your valve cover) and has a better friction coefficient(more slippery).

If you are concerned that the engine might be dirty inside, use a bottle of this stuff first:

www.auto-rx.com

I tried it and it works, my before and after oil analysis results showed major improvements in all areas.

Pat, you brought your oil to a lab for analysis?

So what does this do exactly, it kinda cleans out your engine? So it's kinda like running seafoam in your crankcase?

Yes, I sent my oil to Texas for analysis, although I have now found a lab just a few miles from my house so I started using them instead. For those of you in the US, there are many choices out there, such as Blackstone for one.

Auto-rx is a safe non-solvent type cleaner which slowly attacks carbon and sludge and dissolves it into a liquid and then carries it off into the oil filter. The solvent based engine flushes use much more agressive chemistry which can dislodge larger pieces all at once, which can then clog oil passages and create more damage. The key is when you read an engine flush and you see them mention not to drive the car, but to only idle it, that means this chemistry does not mix well with the oil, it causes it to thin out. Then on your next oil change, some of this solvent remains, causing a deterioration of that oil change too. Auto-rx is different, it mixes perfectly well with the oil, and does not thin out the oil, nor does it affect the chemistry of the oil as such as to cause harm. In fact, oil analysis has shown that smaller 3oz maintenance doses of Auto-rx when used regularily, can lower engine wear, as the chemistry encapsulates wear particles causing them not to create further wear. I email a lot with the co-inventor of this product, as well I'm working with an oil analysis expert (Terry Dyson, who interprets all my oil analysis results for me) who has fully tested this product too and has seen amazing results.
