starting troubles

My car has been sitting for about a year now and won't start. Yesterday i charged the battery and put it in, but when i turn the key the starter just makes a grinding sound. So i figure the gear on the starter isn't sliding onto the flywheel? The flywheel has a tooth missing? Engine is seized? This problem never happened before, so I'm wondering what could have caused this problem? The sad thing is that this car hasn't seen snow in ten years and now it has a foot of the white stuff on it. Any suggestions on how to get car running would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Rob

Re: starting troubles

Just bought and installed a new battery. No luck. The starter is still grinding.

Re: starting troubles

Did you check the main cables for corrosion on the battery end, and on the starter end?
