snap on scanner
Hello to all. MR DOUG, designer of the software for the ill 1994 chevrolet camaro z28 lt1. Now that I need to diagnose it, have found this long sought after info and the program He designed since 2011-2014, plus later iterations. I have read lately that I should be careful to were I buy the r232 ttl to usb adapter. This is as he wrote about it "The company, FTDI, that invented the hardware for the newer version of the cable is waging a war against the Chinese for stealing their design. If you want to go with a DYI cable I would try the basic element from them: https://ftdichip.com/products/ttl-232r-5v/. I did used a cable I bought 2019, with an old win 7 laptop and TOAD scanning software. Now that I switched to win 10 laptop, that cable as far as I read, is not working since it does not have an original FTDI chip on it, hence it is a counterfeit. My main concern right now is if somebody has a proven suplier for such a ttl r232 5v cable? There are a lot out there, many stating their cable works (like mine used to work before). Also, if somebody has proven both cable and FTDI latest driver that it seems is the only way to be able back to having a so needed to us diagnostic tool for our cars. Seasonal greetings to all.
Re: snap on scanner
Have you looked through the Scan9495 thread? Example:

Sometimes it's difficult to get Gary's attention. I believe his latest recommendation is to simply buy a ready-made cable from someone like ALDL.
