What scanner to use.
What scanner to use.
I have a 96 but i have a OBDII to OBDI conversion. When i get a trouble code and i drive to O reiley's to get it scanned what cable should i use, OBDI or OBDII. Also i would like to purchase my own scanner. Nothing fancy just something so i can see trouble codes. So what kind would be compatible with my car. And i have a scanmaster hooked up to my car. Will it read trouble codes when i get the OBDI computer installed.

If you have a laptop you can get freescan for free and a cable costs around $65 I believe. Or you can find those scan tools that only pull DTCs but you need to make sure it is OBD1 with a 16-pin ALDL port or sometimes called an OBD2 ALDL port.

I have an Actron CP9145 which works better than expected. It keeps data frames while driving and even gives me the 134a pressure in my A/C. Very nice unit, very easy to use. I've fixed several cars because of the Actron which would have otherwise probably gone into a shop. Even the less expensive Actron will do what you want, it just won't be compatible with other OBDI vehicles. That's one nice thing about a 95, although it was an OBDI vehicle it was equipped with the OBDII connector like your 96.
