Question Red Intake Manifold?

I was just looking at a few other members pictures of their engine bay and something keeps sticking out... Seems that everyone with a 1995 z28 has a silver intake manifold... Well... mine is red. did the previous owener maybe paint it? doesnt look painted. Looks like it came that way.. anyone have any ideas as to why its red and not silver?

lt4s had the red intake manifold.

it could be an lt4 or just a painted lt1

Exactly.

Whether there's a way to distinguish by looking at it, that I can't tell you.

There are two likely possibilities that would explain your red intake manifold, one as you mentioned, is that the previous owner painted it that way. The second possibility is that it's an aftermarket LT4 intake from GM Performance Parts that the previous owner left on there. Those intakes go for $225-250 if bought separately from the rest of the LT4 conversion for that year. If there are other modifications done to the car, then that's a good chance. Congrats! Unfortunately I don't know any way to tell for sure, but if there's a part number cast into it somewhere, I'd look into comparing that with the one for GM Performance Parts' list.

Well if someone painted it they did a damn good job. Im not sure what the lt4 looks like so i cant compare.. anyone have a pic?. And there is a number stamped on it. its all the way in the back on the passanger side just past the last fuel injector. can you tell from that number which one it is? And.... can someone tell me what the differences are between the two? One last thing.. I also noticed that my throttle body says GranSport on it. and i havent seen that on the other lt1's i have seen. thanks

did you get the car from someone or a dealer? cuz if you got it from someone he could have put on the LT4 intake, and throttle body from a grand sport. but if thats the case i thought you couldn't run lt4 intake on stock lt1 heads? you should probably call the guy who owned it before you to get the story straight...just my .02

Grand Sport TB covers were on 1996 Corvettes with the Grand Sport Edition trim level... all of them with LT4's.

I bought the car from a lady in town whos son past away. I never knew the kid and have no idea what he had done to this car. IF its a lt4 setup. what power differences/ any other kind of differences are there between it and the lt1?

LT4 intakes wont fit on stock LT4 heads. One way to check if the intake and/or heads are lt4's is to take off the valve covers and look at the part number casted on the heads and look it up. Chances are, the previous owner didnt go through the trouble of getting an LT4 intake to fit on LT1 heads so its worth looking into.

he means lt4 intake wont fit stock lt1 heads, without some machining.....probably thinking faster than he's typing and hence the typo.

take a look at the pass. side of the intake where it mates to the head and youll find some the part number. Post what it is and im sure somebody can tell you exactly which intake you have. Which Fbody do you own and whats the model year? It wouldnt happen to be a 97 firehawk or SS would it?
