Plugs and Wires

I just got my longtubes on my car and after only one day of driving it I have already burned one of my Taylor wires. I was thinking about ordering some header sparkplugs for it because that would definitely help with the boot clearence. I was curious to see if I should buy a whole new set of plugs or just buy one single taylor replacement. I am also probably going to order some "firesleaves". Does anyone know where to get these for cheap and who makes them? I have heard that the only header plug is made by Accel. Any suggestions??

PS: I probably don't want to do OVC either.

Re: Plugs and Wires

Depending on the wires and headers, my MSD 8.5's kept getting burnt through by my Hooker LT's and there was nothing the sleeves could do for it. So I took some extra wire and made one extra long and ran it outside the headers and kind of pointed the boot in the other direction. I didnt want OVC either so I just have one running slightly out of place. Looks fine to me and no burnt wires yet. That is with Autolite Plugs.

Any other suggestions? I am probably going to need shorter plugs for sure.

I'm interested to read any other responses also. I'll be looking at this problem by next Friday.

Re: Plugs and Wires

Taylor fire sleeves (the 600 degree version) + aluminum heat shields = burnt taylors after about 3k miles (right through the shields and sleeves!). I do some road course racing though. Im now going with custom taylor 409 race wires (180 boots at 2,4,6) + taylor 1200 degree fire sleeves and an over the valve cover conversion. I didnt want the ovc at first, I thought it would look cheap, but now I think you just have to, and it looks much better than I thought it would-

Re: Plugs and Wires

I really need some header plugs for my car. Is anyone running them? I can't seem to find them. I also need to find a cheap place to order those fire sleeves.

Re: Plugs and Wires

summit racing has both header plugs and fire sleeves. I've always had good customer service and fast shipping with them but I cant tell you how their prices compare. I think its summitracing.com. I think thunder racing has the fire sleeves also-

I am thinking about getting the delteq stage 2 sometime in the future when it comes out. Is it worth it to get the OVTC taylor setup if I am going to get the delteq? I think they would get in the way of eachother.

you'll probably need new wires regardless when you get the delteq because all of the lengths will be different then the opti wires, whether you mount the delteq on the valve cover or the radiator.

Re: Plugs and Wires

When you get the delteq you can always just re-size the wires to fit. My kit come with straight boots for the opti end AND 90* ends........so keep the 90* for later when you need them. JMO

Re: Plugs and Wires

So far i've done the LT's twice, and went wit the OTVC both times. No problems at all with the Taylors. The first time I got the firesleeves, but they were not really neccesary so i passed on them this time. They are very nice however, and you can get them from Thunder Racing.

Hey Phildo, lemme know when you get ready to do those LT's and I'll come give you a hand. You gonna do it at Dam Neck hobby shop?
