LT1 Based Engine Tech 1993-1997 LT1/LT4 Engine Related

please help.....have a constant miss over 5K, please read, i cant figure it out....

My car has been havinf a miss at 1800-2500 rpm. Did an opti, coil. No improvment. Turns out my 2 mo old Taylors are arcing to the valve cover, at the opti, & at the plugs. Soon as the car heats up they arc. I have called Taylor. I was told to return them and they would check them out. 1-800-821-3600

If any of you are running new Taylors and getting an arc, call Taylor and complain. I was told they have not been getting any complaints. BTW, my 3 yr old set of Taylors never arced. This set sucks.

wont pull my K&n except to clean it now.. thanks... no word on the 90$ hour guys. b/c i just baught a house and i close in two weeks $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

so it will be a few weeks before i can make an appt. w/them. i have a f/body club day coming up on the 24th at the track maybe one of them can give me some ideas. im still thinking about tearing the engine down again only cost is gaskets and fluid and alot of time????????????????

All,
I'm having the problem too...but here's something that may not have come up yet: mine only does it when it's hot (1/2 way mark or above) it will miss at 5100rpm on the nose...then pics up again...
But if it's cool, I can go straight into the redzone with np.

Guys, if you could test it on your cars let me know what happens...if it does, it suggest finding ways to keep the temp cooler!

mine does it only when hot also, warm also, cold first thing in the a.m. its ok, but to keep the car in the cold zone were talking below 160' how could we keep my engine that cold.??? but also my problem didnt start until i reinstalled the head and intake??
my miss isnt small if you stay in it it will just keep on sputtering , if you let off it will shift.

Mine is M6...don't have much exp. with autos. Mine doesn't need to be kept at 160 but more like just under the halfway line between 160 and 240 - so just about 200 is good for me.

Hopefully something will come up!

god i hope so!

its weird how many have the same prob w/no fix??

does everyones miss. sputter like mine, it kinda feels like a rev limiter but it slowly climbs through it?? feels like its running on 1 cylinder, it totally falls over, its not just a small miss!!!!, it will keep on missing and sputtering until you let off the gas, any body????

mine really does feel like a rev. limiter...but if I lay on it and force it it will keep on going into the red zone...but it's grumpy...and by that point I've alrady lost 1/2 - 3/4 car lengths...not to mention it's embarassing as sh@T!!

Heath, I have exactly that same problem. Feels like it slowly just creeps through the redline area. "sputters" thru, it's hard to explain, it feels like your going through a major headwind or something when you reach that point in the RPM range.

Darkhorse,Mj, Brian.refresh me here have you all had the intake or heads off at any time?? thats when mine started. but i did have alot unplugged??? has any one changed the opti harness??? i will order one if no one has.!!!! now that we know we are explaining the same problem weve gotta be able to line it out.

LET ME KNOW ON THE HARNESS I WILL ORDER IT ASAP. i can do it when i change plugs one more time ?? what plugs are you running,

i had the intake leak fixed last year and nothing was wrong before or after it, its unlikely its the intake unless its leaking bad........cant say anything for the heads. as for plugs im running autolites. i would be that a bad opti harness would throw a code heath.....who knows, i have bigger fish to fry for the moment, although that may entail another opti swap.....

what? you might be replacing opti? and yes i would thing it would throw a code, but WTF a car that runs this bad should throw 100 codes>

yep, might take out the opti that we were never sure if it worked right from the factory (bought new) and replacing it with an opti that had 5k miles and we KNOW it worked perfectly (buddy went to LS1 style ignition).

good luck hopefully that is it? i mean hopefull your not going that far for nothing. that could still be my prob too the dealer could of put on a defective opti also but???? it has no change at all you would of thaught in my case if it was the opti, this miss would of changed or improved slightly with the diff. opti, but it didnt, im still leaning towards valve spring or something we introduced when we reassembled engine?? sigh

have the k&n CAI. I have removed it to clean it...but I'm 110% sure that it's on there right...as I said before, only happens when the engine temp is 200+.
