now what they tried almost everything and could not find it?
now my next chance is a shop that has a dyno and some serious diagnostic capabilities? 90$per hour.

In my car the miss feels like if you push the clutch in for a split second. Then it just picks right back up. Just has a dead spot at about 4800. It did this with my old plugs and wires and still does it now. First time it did it, it threw an EGR code....not sure if that may be a problem, as I dont know how the EGR system works.
mine feel like a rev limiter almost it seems as if it is getting worse if you stay into it it will hit 5000 rpms and just stay there and flutter, it used to go right through it and up to about 5900 and shift but know it just hangs there not gaining any speed and you have to let off>???????????????????????????

well seems like this thread wont die!! well, i got my new clutch in and it feels strong. ill be getting on it tomorrow AM and see if it might just have been the clutch sucking. i know this doesnt help you HEATH, but it may help some of the M6 if it checks out. what did they look for at the dealer??

I didn't read the 108 posts in between... but as for the initial prob (missing above 5K RPM), here's my $0.02. Do you have CAI? I ask because my initial cold air setup starved my engine for air above 5100-5300 RPM and it missed and stuttered badly. (I have the Lingenfelter setup now and no more high end misses.) When it first happened, I had just fiddled with the CAI, so I hooked the filter up just past the MAF sensor to eliminate the pipe bends. The prob went away immediately. Anyhow, if your engine is starving for air at high RPM, this might be your prob. A dirty filter (or a wet one too), obstruction in the pipe, or lack of venting within the fenderwell could all cause this prob. Hope this helps.
i know it was mentioned before, but i never checked my K+N CAI. it has been ~15,000 miles since i bought it new, maybe it needs to be cleaned. funny that it would happen so consistently at the same place everytime, id think a dirty filter would be rather inconsistent. HEATH, you using the K+N CAI?

Mine had a consistant miss over 5000rpms and I changed my EGR valve ($120 CND) and that fixed the problem. How many of you have bought a new EGR valve? Personally if your going to I would wait and take out the old one and clean it with a drill bit by hand. If that doesn't fix the problem buy a new one. If that doesn't fix it I don't know.

Sorry to hear that you are both still on a quest. So am I. I have the same problem and have done all but the Opti. Mine is an M6, so TC is not an issue for me. Don't really expect that it is for you either, guess you don't ever really know though. Only thing I did that had a marked effect on the problem was new plugs (Bosch platnum) and fresh di-electric grease in the boot. Really helped, but did not entirely fix it, now after 1 month I am back to where I started. UGH.
Too many with this problem. There is a common cause. When any of us finds it, we will all be better off!!

iDO! have the K&n fipk, ill check it tonite when i replace a foglamp bulb.
it would be awesome if that was it i know i never checked it an neither did the dealer but that would have to be coincidental as hell
that it started doing it the first time i jumped on it after the reassemble of the upper half
oh well its worth a try. i wont get too excited until i see something that fixes this damn problem..
were going to have to have a gathering just to celebrate figuring this out?? if were still young enough to party. im only 25 so im getting worried.

I too was intrigued with the idea of the CAI as a cause, particularly as I have never even started mine with the stock set up. Well.....I obviously had to check this out. Unfortunately to no avail. I started by removing the entire intake to the throttle body. Installed the stock elbow, the MAF, and then the K&N. I had to remove my hood to accomplish this as I am short of space. Did a drive test, no change. Then I took the K&N off and ran it (only one pass on my test road) with no filter whatsoever. No difference. Well - not quite, it did not make much power. Think the MAF did not like the open flow. Bottom line I have now crossed this one off my list of possibles.
I will not give up. If I have any news here, I will post straight away. You guys please do the same.
