Pics of my alternator relocation setup
Finding the right belt was a bit of a PITA. Goodyear makes a K060537 (means 6 rib 53 3/4" length) that fits but is a tad loose. The tensioner will bottom out. The next size down is a K060530 (53" length) is too tight to fit. So I swapped to Gates....hard to find....and tried a K060535 (53 1/2") and was better than the Goodyear but still loose....finally went with a Gates K060532. Napa had "same belts" as Gates, but two same part numbers were 1/8" off, so be careful...
All of those belt sizes were with a aluminum reduction pulley on the crank...see pics in my web page under "Engine"......
I powder coated mine in "Silver Vein"....looks AWESOME!

LOL
CCCCya, you can also try POR15 if you don't feel like powdercoating. That's what I did on mine and that stuff is tough as nails. Wouldn't wanna let a brotha borrow your machining equipment for a couple days would ya?
As far as belt length I'm sure everybody's is gonna be just a tad different due to the fabrication aspect and different pulley setups etc. Thanks for the part #s though.

That right there is nice, didn't think about that kind of bracing, good idea. I cut my bracket pretty much in the same fashion and there is about 1/2" clearance to the frame rail. I had to attach the alternator and drop the whole bracket in from the top last night when I was mocking tings up.
Question:
Did you have to lengthen the plug that gets attached to the back of the alternator?

Not necessary IMO if you drop everything in from the top. All that bolt is doing though is holding in the sway bar attachment bracket.
Loadre: I've used POR15 before, and it is certainly some good stuff. Incredibly tough! I'm just going to throw it in with the rest of the small parts to be powder coated by my friend (He's a dragster chassis builder and turns out several cars a month, so they wont even notice my crap in there lol
). The reason I trimmed the bolt back was so I could put a replacement alternator in there if need be without having to pull the bracket off (in the pits.. that sort of thing)..Thanks for the kind words fellas. I'm working on another bracket to move the alt again though
This time a billet bracket to mount on the drivers side. I'll post something if I ever get through with it..Dave C.
I am having a little trouble with the power steering pump line that comes from the power steering rack. I have to bend the stock pipe up in order to allow the alternator enough clearance with the frame. I am having a tough time bending the line. Heating it up and slowly bending it by hand is working the best.
But, is there any way I can eliminate the factory line and go with say a flexible line? Something with maybe Aeroquip or Earl's fittings and a braided hose?
Any thoughts..........

I had the same problem.....bent it by hand with wrenches and brute force....was a PITA....
As far as I know, SS lines would be no problem, but you will need to have it custom made with the proper fittings on each end, and the correct lenghth for your application.

I'm getting ready to have my fab guy go to work on this bracket for me after I cut the notch out. Would anybody be interested in me doing another one to sell cause I have a spare acc bracket with me? PM me if so.
I'm thinking about the same thing (selling a few), but I'm looking at a billet bracket for the drivers side mount. I think more folks would do this if a bracket was redily available, be it on the drivers or the passengers side..
Good luck with it man. I wanna see pics when it's done.
