How long can you drive open headers with no O2 sensors in? Will it hurt anything?
yea i would like to kno as well, im running to the exhaust shop on wednesday and for now dont have them hooked up. btw, i got hooker long tubes without the o2 bungs.....i bought the 24" extensions and new o2's, will it reach the y-pipe to be able to plug them in?
as in the ypipe will have the 02 bungs? if so, I think they will reach. my 12" ext. had an inch or two to spare. only problem is I think the 02 sensors arent as accurate the farther back you put them. hopefully it wont make any diff. putting them a few inches back.
you can install the 02 sensors, just dont plug them in. Ive heard that if you drive around alot w/open headers, that the valves can overheat and "burn" (melt around the edges). but I dont know how long is too long.

If you have non heated O2s do not run open headers with them in, you will burn them up. You can run heated O2s in, and i do not think it will hurt them, but with out pipe extensions they are so close to atomosphere they will not get good accurate readings.
i dont plan on running them open for long, just a quick 10 min drive down the highway and the exhaust place is right at the exit. they are long tubes, so i think that the valve melting issue might be a factor if u have open manifolds or shorties. but i could be wrong, hard getting a straight answer for this situation. However, i do know the smartest and best thing would be to have it towed there, but like everything else, rolling the dice
