my only question about the ported MAF is that it removes a physical restriction...wouldn't the removal of that restriction allow more air in?

Yes, it allows more air in, but how much more?

With the Bars in the MAF flows a specific amount of air for the frequeny it outputs.... When you remove the bars, the MAF no longer flows the same amount of air as it did before, so how does the PCM know what the MAF is flowing accruately anymore?

That's confusing a little bit, I can get into details, but that maybe even more confusing...

If you can answer How much more, and coorliate that to the Frequency that the MAF outputs, then you will have a CALIBRATED MAF... just like they are from the factory.

I have a Granatelli MAF and have no idea what
the performance gain is. I also have the HPPIII
program and a dyno wide ban that says my A/F
is just fine. Considering my car is essentially
stock, the MAF must be doing something for me
to get the HP I'm getting with my mods.

Here's my 2 cents. I have a stock MAF and when my air pump managed to accumulate some moisture in it and crap out on me; its insides decided to come out and through the tube and managed to lodge itself on the screen of the MAF. Had I descreened the MAF, all that crap would have gotten into the engine and God only knows what would have happened from there. For the very minimal gains to be had, not worth it IMHO.
