MAF question
MAF question
I was planning on removing and cleaning the MAF sensor today... well thats one of the things at least. But in those Chilton books, it says to "Position the MAF sensor into the air ducts and tighten the clamps to 36 inch lbs (4 Nm)." I havent ever taken a look at this part while its out of the car, but it seems that there are two plastic ends on the MAF which have a screw going through it in at least two places looking like the 6 point star screws(not sure of the name) i have a screwdriver that i can use to tighten and untighten these, but im not sure if its referring to tightening those screws to the 36 inch lbs or if its referring to the ring clamps on the air ducts...
If anybody could help id greatly appreciate it

I'm sure they are talking about the air duct clamps, as Chiltons never gets into any sensor assembly/disassembly details.
You don't need to disassemble the MAF to clean it. Take the sensor off the car, and spray down the wires that protrude into the airstream with electrical contact cleaner. This will keep the MAF accurate and fast reacting.

had quite a delay... my garage is no longer accessable for a day or two, is it absolutely necessary to disconnect the negative battery cable before cleaning the maf sensor? even if you disconnect the sensor connection before cleaning? or can i just take the maf sensor out and disconnect it, clean it, let it thoroughly dry, yada yada yada and hook everything back up?
Its pretty damn easy. You really don't need to disconnect the battery. Just shut the car off, disconnect and remove the MAF, clean with electrical contact cleaner, allow to dry, and reinstall. Enjoy!
