I would take any motor built by MindGame or BRE.

Its a 383. Ive only ran it once, and it needs tuned pretty bad. Just a mail order tune for now. I eased it out of the hole in fear of breaking the ring and pinion, and ran a 12.2 @ 116. It has a lot more in it. I just bought a house so havnt been able to get it tuned yet, but it will be very soon

We really didnt get snow, maybe some sleet. It was just a ton of freezing drizzle, and a lot of ice. Most of the city was shut down. Delayed closing on my house by 2 days. It was kinda fun. They cant handle that crap down here

I'm a little too expensive, looking thru the last two NA LT invoices for STREET MOTORS they worked out to around $14,600 and $9,000 total for the customer. One was a 396 longblock and the other was a 355 longblock.

As of now I don't have time for many motors, unless something interesting comes along. I don't do short blocks, even if I did a run of the mill 4 bolt forged 383 would be $4,500+, plus a core and that's without a cam or pan. Probably along the line of the VRE "Victory Lane" stuff, that's where I would start.

Some people have a hard time believing that you get what you pay for...

I'm curious Bret, you say that the Victory Lane stuff is where you would start. Where can you really from there. I mean sure you can get a bryant crank and carillo (sp) rods, but whats the point for an LT1?

Just curious of what a build that would deserve your attention looks like.

I know of a 396 LT1 looking around $9000 assembled/installed. I think that's pretty close to accurate for a fairly tricked out LT1.

With shaft rockers, Morel lifters, and goals to spin over 7000rpms I could see it reaching over $10 easy. Add in heads that flow more than the 280cfm ported castings I using (i.e. AFR's with a port job) and you're easily into the $12G range.

Just depends what you want on it, and how much quality/reliability you need.

Don't forget the fuel upgrades.

Basically, I don't like to do run of the mill 383's, because I don't have the time and engine assembly is not very good $$ per hour. This doesn't have to include LT motors.... I'm finishing up two LT motors now, working on UB's Dominion Headed beast, and that's about it for LT stuff. LS stuff is more and more common now, or SBC or BBC stuff. In the end I HATE building the motors, I just have to assemble them because you can't really trust anyone else to do that for you.

On a short block you can go farther, the block work on a SR race motor would be about $2K alone after EVERYTHING is corrected. Just not many people need that. Some of the additional cost can be in the parts like cranks and rods, but it depends on the RPM and power levels really. Eagle and Compstar stuff can handle a good amount of power.

On a long block, well obviously you can put more into the heads and intake. Lots more.

Nate, leghumpers are just that leghumpers.

Got any pics of these engines?
Links to any vids of the cars running?
I will sell you a carbon copy of my engine if you give me $9,000, it would be a nice profit.

I am not questioning the potential cost of any particular race engine. I am questioning the alleged builder. Bret is much more of a Walter Mitty than a John Lingenfelter.

For those of you who don't know http://www.answers.com/topic/walter-mitty
