Low MPH with Hot Cam, WHY??

What could be some possible reasons for the mph being so low?

My best run to date was a 12.7 @107

What are some possible things that could have the mph down?

I need to figure out if I have a problem before I start adding more mods.

My mods are in the sig.

Thanks in Advance

What was your MPH before the cam? That mph with your e.t. sounds decent.

If you were only running 13.5 on stock heads with the hotcam...something isn't right. Im on untouched stock heads with the mods in the sig. My normal runs in the summer were usually 13.2-13.3s at 105-106. That was with 2.1 60fts. With good weather I was able to pull a 13.08@108 with another 2.1 60ft. Im assuming you had your computer retunned? If not this is your problem. When I did the hotcam kit without tunning my best run was a 13.55@103. Tunning made a huge difference. I went through Bryan at www.pcmforless.com

I think this was directed toward me.

Actually, I haven't put the cam in yet, that's why i said hoping to pick up. My best time right now is on a 2.1 60' a 13.5 @ 108. That's w/ just a shorty header, cat back, LT1. I'm hoping to get a few mph and would really like to see some low 13s w/ just the cam.

Actually it was directed to formula383. He stated above that with the hotcam and intake he ran 13.5@100.

107 mph still sounds pretty good, definitely get a tune at the same time...so many people recommend this.

12.7's @ 107 isn't bad. Sounds like your car is hooking up pretty good, what was your 60' and reaction time? My friend just did the CC305 which is very similar to the hot cam, and he's pulling 12.6 to 12.7 between 107 and 109 mph with a 1.9 60' time. What's really amazing, is the fact that the car is a 93 with 180k miles on it and it doesn't use any fluids (a bad lifter made him finally do the cam swap).

The MPH isn't that bad but it does sound a little low. How is your trans, is it possibly slipping at all? Are there any other mods you're leaving out or is that everything? If that's everything I'd say you need to get a CAI to help that setup breath a little better. If you are still on stock programming your computer is probably confused by the changes you've made to your heads and cam. Also, are you running a single cat or no cat? Possibly your cat is clogged. Just a couple of ideas.

Was that with headers? seems you mph was already low back then if that was with headers.

Whats your altitude?

If you gained 7 mph with heads and cam that sound fine to me relative to your previous run.

107 is low w/ a hotcam and LT4 heads and intake, plain and simple. CC305 hits mid 12s at 110-112+ w/ stock LT1 heads. But maybe it's your tuning, cause traction really doesn't affect mph that much, just your et.

94 CAMRO Z28 the car ran 13.5 @ 100 before the head and cam change. Only had CAI, edelbrock shorty headers and 3.73 gears.

97WS6SCharged on the 12.7 run my 60' was a 1.76 on Nittos, have pulled a 1.69 thoughand got the obd1 high stall problem.

GREGG 97Z, I just posted the bigger mods on my sig, here are the others: K&N CAI, Trick Flow Elbow, MSD6A, Taylor OTVC Wires, Autolite 104's,

I still have stock tb, injectors, maf (not even ported ends)

Also, I just had my trans rebuilt a few months ago, all parts from Art Carr, so I don't think it is slipping, not yet anyway.

FastWhiteTA, I think the mph is low, I am of course comparing it to some of the faster hot cam cars on here, Ken95Z28 (not hot cam anymore though), Sweetred95ta, etc...

I thought someone might know something that may be causing me some issues.

Here is the entire slip to see if you think there is a drop and any certain range.
60ft. 1.76
330ft. 5.208
1/8 8.110
1/8 mph 83.87
1000ft 10.64
1/4 12.777
1/4 mph 107.02

Also the car is alread tuned, it is only mail order though by PCMFORLESS.

I have however been thinking about taking it to Carolina Auto Masters and getting it tuned.

However if I can't get the low mph thing figured out I might just have to swap the cam for something bigger.
