Question Idling high

hello i have a 95 camaro z28. The problem i am having is when you start it up it idles high at 1800 so then if you shut it off and start it up right away it idles at about 950 then slowly creeps up. as you are driving with your foot slightly pressing the pedal the ses light goes away. as soon as you take your foot off the pedal the ses light comes back on. i have replaced the tps, idle air contro sensor, map sensor, and the air temp sensor. the only code i got from the computer is 22 which is tps voltage high. i am running out of ideas so any ideas or suggestions would be great. i also dont kno what to do about the engine code so if someone could let me know about that i would greatly appreciate it. the car runs fine it doesnt miss or hesistate it just has a high idle an i cant get it down. please help

Re: Idling high

check for vacume leaks at the intake, or air intake system. somethimes even a small leak will cause it to idle high

Question Re: Idling high

well i have a small oil leak at the back of my intake manifold where you have to lay that bead of slilcone down to make a gasket. evidently i didnt do it right so it leaks a little bit but could air be possibly getting sucked in the causing it to run that high? its leaked back there before so i resiliconed the front and back an bought a new intake gasket for the sides but i guess i didnt lay the silicone right.

I think your talking about the infamous rear intake oil leak. It is a difficult one to get right. There are lots of posts on sealing it correctly here. Just do a a search. Check the IAC motor and look for something like the brake booster or other hoses. Did you do the work recently on the car? Might be that something didn't get hooked back up right.

Re: Idling high

you know i was going to ask the same question.1999z 25,000 miles. When i brake the idle comes down. I can go 30 mpg and it stays at that speed till i brake and slow down.Car had alot of hp work done to it a few years back but the guy who did it all died!!!! I got divorced and never found the paper work for all he did. Car runs like a top but Im sick of it doing that. When i slow down i have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it idling when i stop..Any ideas?

thanks rick

Unfortunately, your 99 Z28 does not have the LT1 engine, which is the subject of this forum. You need to repost your problem on the "LS1 Based Engine Tech" forum:
