I have heard bad head gaskets knock like a rod...when they blow between the cylinders...of course it never goes away...but a bad HG can cause a knock...

Same thing happened last weekend. I hear mine mainly at idle becuase my exhaust it loud but at the front of the engine you can hear a definate ticking. I adjusted the rockers and it went away a little. I still think i collapsed a lifter.

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

I used the matco combustion leak tester to see if I had a blown head gasket and it tested out fine, how can I tell if it's a collapsed lifter?

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

My Impala did the same thing yesterday. After running it to town and back i shut it off and about an hour later I started it and there was an awful ticking noise. pulled the valve covers today and found a rocker arm(comp pro mag 1.6 S/A) loose on cylinder#4 exhaust. The funny thing was the nut was tight and so was the polly lock. This is with CC R lifters. I have heard terrible things about the R lifters lately here and on the Impala forum. Well I reset the lash (car running) and seems to be fine now so far, but if it comes back the lifter has failed and will replace all with something other ran the Comp R's. Good luck.

Spun bearing and lifter or valvetrain noise sound alot alike.
