I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

Here's my problem, major loss of power recently, and now I have a rapid tapping noise that gets louder and faster as I accelarate(very slowly these days I might add ). I have a set of pacesetter longtubes and plugs and wires and new 02 sensors I'm getting ready to install, but now this tapping has me wondering if the motor is shot, oh yeah I've done the valves twice and it hasn't helped the noise. Any ideas would be appreciated, I Hate my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how does the oil pressure look? Is it kinda on the low side and does it rise with rpm? Could be a spun bearing....been there, done that.... Does it sound like it is coming from one side of the engine or is it from below?

Mine did the exact same thing it was my connecting rod slapping inside my piston just before it went out and yes, the acceleration was **** before it blew

The oil presure is a little low and gets about norm with rpms, in the car soounds like the noise is coming from the passenger side, but while doing the valves this weekend it kinda sounded like from the intake hard to tell cause it doesn't get real loud till you rev it some.

Are you sure a lifter hasn't collapsed? Does it make more noise cold than warm? When you say accelerate slow, Does it drive normal and seem to puke out at a certain rpm, like lower than normal for it to peak?

I have somewhat the same problem. I have a tapping coming from my drivers side valve cover. It only seems to be really apparent when the motor has warmed up. I may pull off the valve covers to see if maybe a rocker has come loose. They are stock by the way. Would a loose rocker cause that much clank?

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

I've done the valves and it helped the idle noise quite a bit, the car actually smooths out over 2,000 rpms and runs all right(still missing some power) the noise is actuallyworse cold, cold it's noticeable at almost any rpm, warm it just gets noticeable when you get a little bit into it. I'ts more like a tap than a knock if that makes any sense. Is there any way to find out if it's a spun bearing without tearing everything down?Or aany way to find out what else it could be?

I spun in a bearing in my old truck. The tapping would increase with RPM. Oil pressure was the give-away. Oil pressure was constant at about 15 psi. Thats it, no matter how fast the engine spun oil pressure stayed the same.

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

I changed the oil a week ago, the old oil looked good, the oil pressure sits atabout 20-25 psi at idle and under load sits between 40 and 50

I had the same problem, adjust the valves. Nothing seemed to help. I put a can of seafoam in the oil and drove it to work (40 miles). The noise stopped. Then I lost a head gasket and I replaced all of the lifters with crane oem replacements. No more troubles.

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

i had a similar problem with my '95 and it was a decently loud ticking seemingly coming from the passenger side near the intake. it turned out that the egr connection was blown. aka the hard rubber hose that connected to the egr was bursted. this for me anyways accounted for a large power loss and the ticking...........good luck.

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

Did the seafoam contribute to the head gasket? I actually was losing coolant and thought it was a head gasket, did a combustion leak test and everything was good, found the coolant leak it was at the water pumpseal.

Re: I Hate my Car!!!!!!!

Sure it's not a header leak? Blown header gasket or maybe a cracked header tube weld? Something to keep in mind.
