how much can I stroke??

I need to know how much stroke LT1's can take.... I wanna go as big as possible and I realize that some grinding might have to be done; however, I don't want something that is not going to work at all. Thanks, Jason

Re: how much can I stroke??

I've seen at least one person who used to post on CZ28.com fairly regularly claim he built a 421ci LT1 with a 4.030" bore and a 4.125" stroke - don't knwo if anyone actually saw it. I think that a 4.125" crank is going to stretch the limits of your definition of "some grinding"... even a 3.75" stroke crank requires "some grinding".

You can hit water even when clearancing for a 3.75" stroke, depending on the rods used and the variation between castings.

OK.... this belongs in "LT1 Engine Tech".... might want to combine it with your post about a 500(rw)HP naturally "asperiated" engine.....

Re: how much can I stroke??

Very long strokes on a stock block are cost ineffective. Put the money into heads. If you really want to spend the long buck on an LT1 you could adapt some 18 or 15 degree heads and make some really big power. Or go all out with an aftermarket gen I small block and get some really big cubes. Just be sure to bring plenty money to the party. Unfortunately, you won't be leaving with it!
