How long did your lt1 last?
335,000 miles. Ran great until the #1 cylinder lifter starting "ticking". Needed a new cam and lifter. This happened at about 100K also and that time I just replaced the cam. This time I rebuilt.
88k miles, had a comp rocker nut come loose on me and let the valve hit the piston. I *might* have been able to save the motor as the piston only had a small nick in it, but I chose not to. My block is sitting in my garage awaiting a future build up after I decide to upgrade from my current 355 in several years.
Motor looked brand new inside.

mine lasted 111k untill i blew it up with a nice big dry shot!
hmmm... seems like very different driving habits, maintenance and aftermarket equipment on all of your cars, the mileage/failures are very uneven.
My '96 just turned 67k no failures so far, I just had to replace the radiator this weekend but that is not an engine component. I just hope nothing breaks, its a PITA to work on this cars! I miss my '90 and my '78, lots more space in the engine bay.

Miles
161, 000 miles and had my very first problem this week, #4 off the opti came loose from the holder and was rubbed in two from a pulley. Luckily, I had a spare wire hanging around so I took the opti side off of the old wire, crimped it on to the spare and away I went. Changing all wires and plugs this weekend. Other than that, just usual wear and tear. Bone stock. Smoked a new Infinity G35 on the way to work today...gotta love American muscle.
Mine started it's life with a 6lb PowerDyne blower on it for the first 50,000 miles. Stock tune, stock plugs, wires, etc. Original owner apparently didn't do much research. I bought it as the 3rd owner and drove it like this for about a year until I sold the blower and started doing bolt-ons. Ran fine on the street and hung with all the cars it should have power-wise but I was getting oil coming out the dipstick tube at high rpms during roadcourse events. I swapped in a Golen 396 this past winter and when I tore down the old motor I found broken ringlands on 3 pistons. I assume it's been in that state for most of it's life but ran just fine, didn't use an excessive amount of oil, etc. Bearings and everything else looked great. It had 136k on it when I pulled it out and probably would've gone another 50k or more as a street motor.
I also know several guys who road race in the Camaro Mustang Challenge series, which limits the motors to stock - most of them start racing with well over 100k on the clock and have 3 or more full seasons of racing on them doing nothing more than changing the oil after every couple of races. Considering that this type of racing has the motor at high rpm, full throttle for 20 - 30 minutes at a time, several times a day, I think that says a lot. These motors are a hell of a lot tougher than most give them credit for.

Started spraying @ 100k
cc306 @ 110k
Spun 2 rod bearings @ 120k
Built a forged bottom end, mild heads, gm847 - sprayed it to @ 600hp
Roller snapped off a lifter @ 132k - don't know why - trashed the cam
Swapped to dished pistons, built a turbo kit, and now have @ 1k on that
Mine has had a very hard life.

how does a loose rocker nut allow the valve to contact the piston?if the nut comes loose, the valve wont open as far as it should and will beat the hell out of the pushrod and rocker, but not drop a valve.if your pistons hit your valve then it was prob over reving that caused it/

A loose rocker nut will certainly drop a valve. The loose rocker will start to bounce and it will eventually get knocked off the valve stem in which case it will push down on the retainer itself, releasing the locks, up comes your valve spring and down goes your valve....booom.
arnt you that kid that use to call me out all the time on midwest madness with your 93 formula.
A friend of mine's '95 TA broke the crank in half at around 80k miles. It was bone stock and he was the original owner, never raced it, and changed oil religiously. So it can happen.
Mine's got 100k on the clock and has been ran hard the last 20k miles and still going strong.

About 56K before this happened....

This happened at LACR about mid-track, during a mid-12 second run, so,

now I'm installing this. NO MORE crappy hyperutectic (sp?) pistons, more cubes, better heads, more cam, WOOOHOOO!

I have about 204,XXX miles on my 94 z28. I have replaced the water pump two times, fuel pump once, transmission about four months ago, and of course the usually maintance to keep the car running good and strong.
A few aftermarket parts have been added but most of the engine is stock. I do burn a little bit of oil.
