Just a thought but pull one of the valve covers and check to see if the rockers are hitting the inside of the cover... I had that problem with the stock covers and the $300+ covers from LPE. I had to grind alot of material away to keep them from hitting....

I checked the dowel pin to make sure it wasent longer than my stock cam. It was quite a bit shorter. So i know it isant the dowel pin. I did started the car today with the maf disconnected. The car started right up, but idled at 2 or 3k rmp. Does anyone know what this could mean? With the maf plugged in it will only start for a second or two then shut off.

Try the MAF check test...

if you can get the car to run long enough with the MAF connected, tap it with a screwdriver. If the engine stumbles, that would indicate broken filaments in the MAF.

The car wolnt idle long enough for me to tap it. It last at most 3 seconds. With it unplugged it will idle at 2k rmp till it turn the engine off. I tried unplugging the iac sensor and starting it, but it did the same thing. The only thing i can possible think it would be is the maf sensor or iac. Maybe both. Anyone ever had problems like this before?

Unplugging the MAF will make the car idle higher. Try cleaning the resistors with some qtips and rubbing alcohol. It may or may not solve your problem but it will be good anyway.

humm, you say the pin was shorter than stock?
It may be too short. the pin may not engage the opti slot and then the opti will be about 10 degrees retarted to the cam. I don't know, that could be it.

More likely..Could just be loose ground wires and or loose-marginal connections at some point in the vast wireing harness.

hope you find the fix. If it's certain that the cam pin is the correct length and all mechanical items are good, then go looking at connections and wiring.

if unplugging the sensor allows the car to run, there is a problem there. when you unplug the device, the pcm runs on a sort of safemode, replace the sensor!

by stumbles, did you mean a lopy idle?

the 93-94's had the shorter dowel pin - 95-97's had the longer dowel pin
