Question Quick Bose Question

Well my bose in my 95 Z28 quit working. Well not really just the treble and bass adjustments. It sounds like **** because I can't adjust my levels. I've been looking around for used bose head units, but everyone wants 150 or so for one. So I'm thinking about getting an aftermarket HU. I'm kind of skeptical though because I've heard of the aftermarket sound quality being poor with the stock speakers. So I was wondering what everyone thinks of their sound quality with their aftermarket HUs. I loved the way that the bose sounded but now it sounds horrible. So just asking opinions. Also what HU do you recommend and how hard was it to install the aftermarket to the stock wiring harness? Thanks in advance.

I put a Pioneer 6400 in a 96 Z w/ Bose. Sounded awesome. I was impressed. Wish my monsoon sounded that good. I used the PAC piece ($60 retail) to integrate it with the factory amps. If done right, an aftermarket will kick the stock HU's ***.

I was looking at the Pioneer 6400 and the Pioneer 8400. Hope mine sounds as good as the one you installed. Thanks for the input.
