Hotwire,

Yeah, she has sisters, but they're all married.

I've never owned a set of headers, so I don't know if the welds are worse than normal or not. I mean, the welds are very nice, but they do protrude into the flow of the headers slightly. I just don't know if it will make any significant change to the performance.

dogboy,
I'll buy a cat and weld the correct ends on it so that I can remove it if I would like, and put an Off-Road-Pipe(ORP), or a bullet muffler in it's place. The Cat will go between the Y-pipe and the Hooker Cat-back. I'm going to have the PCm programmed to remove the rear 02's.

BlackIce,
Thanks. I might give you a shout if I run into any problems. Thanks for the offer, and glad to hear that you like them so much. Did you hook them up to a stock exhaust, or a Cat-back system?

I don't know about it affecting the performance, but man, just the sight of the welding wire stuck to the headers, THAN COATED!!! would make me wonder about their quality control. the welds look good, but is everything welded fully, did they all penetrate, any holes anywhere (were they tested?), everything straight (flanges), etc etc. I am in no way trying to make you think bad about these headers, just point it out to MAC and see what they say, if I owned the company and saw something like that leaving the dock, i'd have someone's ***, that should not represent what that company does, i'm sure they would be interested to see it.

i know it's a little petty thing, but can't hurt. i don't think it will affect performance any, if they say ship em back, make them send out a call tag for them so you don't get hung w/ the shipping bill.

good luck.

My setup is the mac headers and y-pipe to an offroad pipe, then to an edlebrock cat back. It all fit right up.

My question is, if you have the stock 94-95 z28 exhaust, does the Mac set up go in with no problems? That is, does the y-pipe stuff right into the stock cat. con. in the stock position with no welding, hammering or cursing?

Yeah, the rims that I have on there now are the stock '97 rims.

These rims are going on in the spring. Stock SS rims:

They look great coated. I just left mine with the "HTS" coating, though.

I did grind the weld on the inside of my tubes. Figure it like this...Would you want those big bumps in the exhaust ports of the heads?...Probably not! They have to provide a pretty substantial restriction. BTW, this is typical on most of the MAC headers that I've seen.

My car seems to really like mine, though.

My MACs, on my '93 went right on with very little hassle at all. The MAC y-pipe comes with a "starter pipe" that has to be welded to your cat. Once that's done you will have a cat that's flanged on both ends...Which makes it easy to swap back and forth between a cat and an off-road pipe.

One other thing about the MAC headers...Easy plug access...Except the # 6 plug. It's still a PITA.

Yeah. I'm thinking that I will grind it. It's not like I'll be removing the coating on the entire header, and the welds are small so I won't be removing a lot of material. It will only be removed at the weld. It will give me peace of mind to know that they are flowing as good as possible. Otherwise, I'd always be wondering how much the welds might affect my performance.

Wow...those MAC's look like true Legit headers now!!!

yeah just grind out the ports. That;s what I did to my Eddies.

They had these big fat restrictive looking welds in them. Just grounded them out with the Dremel.

Cool

I also I got my mac headers and y-pipe from jet hot. They look awesome when I got them. You will like the gain from the headers and y-pipe and also they will look awesome in the engine bay. If you go to Jordon Musser's website he has a step by step guide to install the mac headers. The step by step guide really helped me out with the install. Here is the website link:http://www.fastblackcar.com/camaro/mac_headers.html. Hope that helps out.

Question on cat again. What size cat outlet for the y pipe 3" or 2.5" I'm awaiting a set and would like to install in 1 weekend so if I order my cat in advance I can have it welded up right away.

Thanks. I look forward to feeling the improvement.

I had that site bookmarked too. I think your link is a little messed up. It didn't work when I clicked on it. I think it's the extra period at the end of your link. Here is the one I've looked at.

The outer diameter of the pipe that welds to the Cat is 3" You can see the pipe in the first picture of my post. It's the one right after the Y-pipe. That pipe welds to the cat. So I assume you need a 3" cat.
